TM>-- Ok, silence................. ................ok, that's enough. Did you ever wonder if the two John are on this list just to see what we have to say about them? I have. Now, about these covers... TM>Primus- Your racist friend Ok. I think Primus could do that, but I think they'd be better suited with Spy, or at least something with more bass. Come on, it's Les were talkin' about here. TM>Cracker- Stand on your own head I guess Cracker could do this song, but they'd probably be better off with Ana Ng or even Cowtown. Cracker does have those stupid country songs, so at least give them a good country song. TM>Rancid- Stomp Box This one is a good choice, although I don't like Rancid. At least you didn;'t pick Green Day. I HATE GREEN DAY! TM>Nine inch Nails- Where your eyes don't go You know, as odd as it seems, I can see ol' Trent doing this. Except it would be really noisy, and you probably couldn't hear the words. TM>Stone Temple Pilots- self called nowhere I think Dirt Bike would be better. I mean, they did do that song at the end of Purple. TM>Weezer-Dead NO! NOT WEEZER! I don't like Weezer, and I love Dead. Leave this song to They Might Be Giants......or Soundgarden...that would be interesting... TM>Porno for Pyros-Sleeping in the flowers Don't get me started on Perry Farrell... TM>I think Weird Al Yankovic should do the "Famous Polka". I think Weird Al should just put all they Might Be Giants songs into one song. That would kick ass. He could have the two Johns as guests on his ablum. TM>Neither one really contributes more, they both sing, they both play the TM>instruments (although I'd probably say Linnell plays more instruments), Actually, I think Flansburg plays more. He plays the piano, every saxaphone known to man, and probably a few instruments we didn't even know existed. Linnell plays the guitar, and I think the accordian. When I saw them on the House of Blues, Linnell played the guitar the whole time while Flansburg switched off between piano and sax. Maybe you should spell it out in PERZ candies. It would probably be more remembered and followed if you did that. TM> 2) Nothingman was given the Tape of Life From the House of Blues TM>from a friend ofours. I don't get TBS, so I was planning on borrowin TM>gthe tape when he was through with it. TM> I was just wondering if they took out the lyrics of AKA Driver TM>(Nyquil Driver?) because they had copyright material. They said that NyQuil was going to sue them if they printed it on their Lyrics sheet ("Maybe they think that people will buy our CD to cure their colds instead"), but it isnt illegal to say it in the song. This was a crime against humanity, and animality at that, and I am truly sorry, even though I didn't do it. My reply--"handy tips for video tapers": On the VHS tape cassette, there is a nifty little break-off tab called something like a "RECORD PROTECT" device. If you want to prevent your dad from taping over something, just break off this tab. Any good VCR will then refuse to record on that tape. This tab is located on the outside edge of the cassette, just to the left of the label. If you change your mind (or lose your mind, in the case of a rare TMBG recording), you can put some adhesive tape over the hole where the tab used to be, and record away! ============================================================================= Russ Josephson RussJ@btc.adaptec.com "How come I can't see you in my mirror?" -- Tonio K "Don't let the features you read control the tickets you buy" -- America "I took off the intellectuals, I put on They Must Be Giants" -- Anonymous ============================================================================= ------------------------------ From: Russ Josephson x722 Date: Tue, 19 Dec 95 10:52:13 MST Subject: TMBG on TV Collection I am compiling a list of TMBG video clips, based on the recent thread. I beleive that Dig My Grave got my nod for the worst. Kiss Me Son of God got about 1/4 of my "best" votes. I had some ideas for this idea about the other groups covering TMBG songs.. I'm afraid they're probably worse than any aforementioned. 1)Manheim Steamroller: "Lady is a Tramp" -I love their vocalist 2)Belly: "When it Rains it Snows" -admit it, it would be cool 3)Alanis Morisette- NOTHING! she should never ever be allowed to sing 4)Gwar: Dig My Grave- this sucks Beavis! change it. huh huh, huh hu 5)Weezer: "We're the Replacements" 6)Pearl Jam: "Istanbul" - we'd all appreciate TMBG a little more after hearing Pearl Jam slaughter the perfect song Paul(SOn of gOD) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Dec 1995 22:24:33 -0500 (EST) From: "Michael C. The bass line to YRF is quite low (the C below the lowest E), and it can be made rather funky... slap it a bit. THe guitar solo has "Herb" written all over it. I find this a suitable choice for Primus. lebo ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Dec 1995 22:27:28 -0500 (EST) From: "Michael C. I'm sure everyone has written a responce to this by now, but I shall to. Flans plays guitar and only guitar. He's the one with the glasses. Linnell plays the accordian, piano, sax, and other reed instruments (clarinet). He has no glasses and is skinnier. Nothingman, you've the Giants mixed up. lebo ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Dec 1995 22:32:35 -0500 (EST) From: "Michael C. Throw in a few Trey riffs, make it a half hour long, take out some of the words... okay. But not as is. As much as I hate to say it, the song s just too silly. lebo ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Dec 1995 22:38:09 -0500 (EST) From: "Michael C. Lebovitz" Subject: Re: an uprising!! I'm sure this has come up before, and I must have missed it. But, damnit, I'm ignorant! The movie Tapeheads (1988) has Put Your Hand ... Puppethead on the soundtrack. The only reason I know this is #1. I work at Blockbuster and have way too musch free time, and #2. I saw the credits on tv tonight, decided to see what movie it was because Weird Al plays himself in it, and received some validation to my assumption about the song. the end. lebo ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Dec 1995 01:16:20 -0500 (EST) From: Cuper Vargas Subject: Re: Oh that weather outside is frightful! I forget what that group was called--anyone else remember? > FLK > The group who sings O Do Not Forsake Me on "John Henry" is called Hudson Shad. They played with the Giants on some of their tour dates. However, before the release of John Henry, the song was sung (live) by Flans with Linnell backing him on accordian. On the "Live In NYC" CD, it is sung by Flans and backed by Linnell's keyboard. Since then, (at least the last time I heard them play it back in April) it has been modified to include a really slick drum beat. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Dec 1995 00:42:04 -0600 (CST) From: Anne Swan Subject: Re: Oh that weather outside is frightful! the singers at the end of the famous polka are: John Linnell and John Flansburgh. just them. however, there is a cool thing you can do with that song. if you put the balance on only one side, you hear linnell on one side, and flansburgh on the other. try it, right now. paul ------------------------------ End of tmbg-list Digest #1-101 ******************************
