Matt I say: I know this reply is long after the original post, but hey, I'm busy. Anyway, since you mentioned this mix, I just had to say that the sample from it which goes, " 'hup 2,3,4" is really from a Time song called "The Walk." I know this because I'm the largest Prince fan I know, and if any of you remember, The Time was one of the more successful Prince-related bands. Of course, I guess that the John's could have just recorded it themselves without sampling from The Time. Actually, I suppose I shouldn't say that it definitely is a sample, but that's my best guess--if it's not a sample, They sure fooled me. So, can anybody else back my assertion? And, does anybody have any idea where that first part of the mix comes from....that part about the tornado? It reminds me of that old Hanna-Barbera cartoon about that gold-rushing ghost---but I don't know why. I was amazed at what I came up with, and that is, there are actually _two_ *correct* answers. It does depend on which side you're listing to, as was mentioned in the FAQ. But the highs and the lows don't sync up with each other. In the space between the highs, the lows come through, that's why it's so choppy, so that one side can come in where the other rests, and make the second message. Right Left I repeat, my sir* I reheat my soup, fit it together (It is a gumbo) and walk a(way) and walk away *my sir, master, something like that. On the right side only, the (way) in "away" comes from the "waiting" in "waiting for the dinner bell", but on the left side only, the way comes and then the "waiting" from "waiting for the dinner bell" comes afterwards separately, as coon@ecn.purdue.edu (Matthew S Coon) said, clearly showing that there are two messages. Check it out for yourself. So you see, everyone has so far has been only *partly* right. I copied this piece of the song to an 8bit mono sound file, and it clearly shows that the highs and lows come separately, alternating. The last line alternating the same syllables, giving the same last line for both messages. If you want, I can send you the file, just tell me if you want sun ".au", win ".wav" or mac " snd". I've subscribed to the mailing list, but haven't had anything returned yet, so I'd appreciate it if you'd forward this message to the list for me. I want to brag about the Philly show, cauze I was there and I was about 6 rows of people away from the Johns and it was so cool and I loved it, except for the Martinis who were not an appropriate group to open for Them. Anyway, if anyone cares, I was the loser hanging around with the guy in the Burger King crown. lah. So afterwards, the Burger King guy and I went to hang around by the vans and wait for anybody to peek their heads out the door. There were about 20 or so people there as well. This bouncer comes out and says, "I'll give a pick to the person who tells the best joke." Nobody speaks. We're all too overwhelmed by this statement to think of anything funny. Somebody tells a joke, which wasn't funny, and I get one in my head. It's offensive, so don't read the following if you get offended by penis jokes: The guy goes to a doctor and says, "Doc, I've this problem. I've a really small penis. Is there anything you can do to help me?" The doctor examins the man and says, "why, yes. There is this new procedure where a muscle is removed from a baby elephant's trunk and inserted into you. It doesn't hurt you or the elephant, it just makes you bigger." The man is overwhelmed. So he signs up, has it done, and a few weeks later he's on his first date after the fact. He's sitting on one side of a table and this beautiful woman is on the other side. Suddenly, his penis unzips its fly, jumps across the table, grabs a biscut, and ducks back under. His date is amazed. "Do it again," she says. And the guy replies, "I'd like to, but my ass can't take another biscut." The bouncer guy smiled, a bunch of other people told jokes, and then he handed me a brown, Manny's "heavy" guitar pick! I think it's Gram's. Some guy tried to buy it off me for $10, but I couldn't sell it. Anyway, a bit later, Jim the trumpet player comes out. The Burger King guy I was with yells out, "Hey look! It's Vatican Pete!" in reference to what Flans called him last time They were in Philly. Of course, his name was Vatican JIM, so BK guy corrected himself. Jim comes over, we all shake his hand, and then he signs autographs. Afterwards, he told us a story of the Johns, himself, some fans, and some cheesesteaks. it was cool. Sadly, the Johns never came out the back entrance. I think They pulled a Julianna Hatfield and went out the front door after everyone was waiting by the back. But we met Jim, and i got a pick. I am still floating from joy. so, i'm done talking now. love you all. lebo ------------------------------ From: Shane_Markle@eagle.web.net (Shane Markle) Subject: Re: "Dinner Bell" Hidden Messages Date: 06 Jan 1996 21:53:44 GMT Organization: Web/NirvCentre After all this, I realized that all I really needed to do to hear the two messages was listen to the tape in my walkman on one headphone or the other...
