Just lemme know or whatever... XTC, along with Talking Heads, and the oft lamented Replacements are seen as the anti-heros of pop in the eighties, in other words, they all have great pop music, and large cult followings, but seldom did any of their songs touch the charts, as far as I know, only two XTC songs ever really appeared, skylarkings' controversial suprise hit "Dear God" and Nunsuch's "Ballad of Peter pumpkin head" which you may have heard when Crash test dummies covered it for Dumb and Dumber, though they lost the meaning...The other thing about the band is how very odd of a band they are, if you compare their first release, 3D EP to their latest, Nunsuch, you will find yourself listening to two very different albums...and the metamorphasis in between is unparralelled...also just realeased is a tribute album (testimonial dinner) on which are TMBG doing a song called "25 O' Clock" (that _IS_ hard to type) from XTC's covert operation at imitating punk under the codename "Dukes of Stratosphear", if you need a tie in, buy this album, if not, get Skylarking, it is widely considered their best album... Sorry to be so long winded and official sounding, but I just spent ours at an extemp practice session...(while on the topic, any other speechies out there?>I've found that many speech geeks like TMBG and other such bands...)
