I just got done reading the *loaded* new TMBG website, www.tmbg.com . I read Jamie Lincoln Kitman's little history of TMBG, and found a link that TMBG has to PEEWEE HERMAN. OH NO, you say? It seems that the Del Rubio Triplets were at the same venue where TMBG was to play. These Del Rubio Triplets were blond-pompadorred(sp?) mentholites with a knack for sparkin' up the old goodies. Well, strange that I should remember this, but the Del Rubio Triplets appeared on the now unfortunately defunct Saturday morning show, _Pee Wee's Playhouse_. I recall them doing a video on that show for "These Boots Are Made For Walking." They may also have appeared on Pee Wee's Christmas special, that gathered a lot of his former guests into one show. Odd. Hmm. **** On another note, my mother was watching television one night over the summer, and in the credits of some movie she saw, she could have sworn she heard a TMBG song! Yes! After picking her brain, I think she said she thought she heard "Everything Right Is Wrong Again." So, there must be truth to that rumor of a movie with a TMBG song somewhere in it! Unfortunately, she could neither recall the movie, nor find a program listing for it. I can't recall on what channel she saw the movie, but I think it was a national channel, not a local Winston-Salem station. Also in any case permission to print must be sought. Some artists are dead against the printing of lyrics to their songs. As for Istanbul - anyone know what the date is of the original song ? Isn't it something like 1957 ? I think there is another law in that a song becomes public domain after a certain number of years (30 ?) after it is published (and you can credit it even by saying "traditional : arranged by TMBG" - although I seem to remember They didn't). For a public domain song the rules are different and I don't think you even pay royalties ? Am I right ? After all - who would gain in the case of (say) a classical composers song being "covered" or performed by a modern day artist ? ------------------------------ From: Christi587@aol.com Date: Sat, 5 Oct 1996 21:27:20 -0400 Subject: Chromosome stuff OK, here it is again, straight from the encyclopedia: *** Chromosome abnormalities can occur from structural defects in the chromosome or from having either more or fewer than the normal 46 chromosomes. Down's syndrome, formerly called mongolism, is caused by an extra 21st chromosome. Mental retardation is moderate to severe, and the characteristic physical appearance of people with Down's syndrome includes a small skull; a short, flat-bridged nose; and unusually short fingers and neck. Sex chromosome aberrations occur in both males and females. Turner's syndrome arises because one of the two X chromosomes is absent in the female. This results in a short, blocky physique and lack of sexual development. In Klinefelter's syndrome the male usually has two X chromosomes and one Y chromosome, resulting in small genitals, lack of sperm formation, late puberty, and, occasionally, breast development. *** So you see, Down's syndrome has nothing to do with sex chromosomes. And Klinefelter babies are usually male, not female, although it doesn't seem to matter when you apply it to the song. Quick review- lots and lots of electric guitar. No horns. Minimal accordian. Beautiful CD box. Totally Rockin' in the literal sense. One question- what is "Token Back > to Brooklyn?" It's not on my copy. From what I understand, its on track 0 which means you gotta rewind the CD from track 1 to the space before it. A friend and I did this to the X-files Soundtrack and there was 10 minutes worth of stuff that's sorta hidden. So I assume its the same with Factory Showroom. Which other artists are doing this/jsut how prolific is this? ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Oct 1996 23:33:12 -0400 (EDT) From: "The Famous Mr. Klaw" Subject: foolish is my middle name Hi I feel like an idiot! Well, as soon as I get my hands on a copy of Factory Showroom I'll work out the bass part for S-E-X-X-Y. I've heard the realaudio version of the song but that's not really sufficient. As for Snail Shell, I can put that together (I know it, I just have to write it out). Send me an email... To Chris: >Also unincluded is "New York City", since it isn't Their lyrics to >print. Actually, I think the reason They left out the lyrics to New York City is because they couldn't figure out all the words exactly so they "took some liberties" with some words... Whatever >the number, we don't have nearly as much new material to digest from TMBG. >Why why why? In Their defense, I'll say this: most of the songs on Factory Showroom are longer than on the other albums...so for example, FS is actually about 2 or 3 minutes LONGER than Lincoln, which has 5 or 6 more songs on it. On the other hand, John Henry is about 15 minutes longer than FS (and has 20 songs). I think TMBG probably should have included Sensurround and maybe a couple of others on the new album... To Aaron: > One other thing. While checking out www.tmbg.org I saw that >there were *14* tracks listed for FS. Why is that? My copy only >has 13 tracks. Is this a typo or was a new track added?
