Linnell said "our extra guitar player was stolen with the rest of the equipment". Not too much chatter from the Johns. A couple of comments about people wearing their new christmas shirts. Flans again told the story of the stolen equipment but he added a few details. The equipment was stolen at the Riverside train station in Newton, MA. ( A place that I have parked my car many times). Apparently, after the theft, he called his mother, who lives about 10 mins from the train station to tell her what happened. I didn't mind being a pancake once Linnell gave me that Linnell smile of sympathy.. 8) Ironically, that was the only time he looked at _me_ for more than 2 seconds. I was the one with the high pitched screaming you most likely didn't hear. I stuck my arms out each time Flans came to the edge of the stage. Oh, and my sister was the short tmbg-clad kid on the side of the stage who Brian was getting a kick out of (and ended up with 4 autographs, 2 drumsticks, a setlist, AND a schedule!). Keep checking my web site-- I'm putting TMBG autographs up there! And pictures when they're developed. Oh-- and Frank Sinatra's "Lady is A Tramp" played at the end of our concert too.. Well, I for one > would not miss Eric too much, although I wish Flans could learn to play the > guitar without popping strings. Reworking songs is a specialty of TMBG. They just need a little time to sit down and figure out how to do it with less-than-the-normal-amount-of-people. I think they did this for other songs, too. As for XTC vs Adam Ant, they played this on Friday w/o Eric. They also played Pet Name w/o any guitar whatsoever, that was kinda weird. Also, when they got the full band, they had Doherty playing any drum machine parts they had from old songs, so they had to do some reworking there. Not that I want Eric back really, but I'm sure he's just vacationing for the New year and they let him off for a bit. I think they like him if they let him join the band, even though he doesn't play on all of the songs. We shall see what happens I suppose. I forgot to say hi to Bob and Lauren who I saw the 9:30 Club show! It was great seeing you guys! Also, I spoke with the ubiquitous John Murray for a bit before the show nd it was good to see him again. I hope I didn't leave anyone else out... He he.... I just realized, I have a rock with a string wound around it! Story: I work at a Scout Camp summers, in Nature. This year we discovered how much fun Geology is, at least the smashing rocks part. (NOTE: This is also how I got my nickname THOR) Anyhow, one of the other guys had been trying to smash a rock for two weeks, and was fed up with it, so he asked me to try. I did, and for the first half dozen hits, the rock would bounce about 3 feet up into the air from "elastic rebound." Then, on the last hit, the hammer (also named Thor) went through it like a hot knife through butter. I took one of the chunks, and with no conscious connection to the song, tied a rope in a constrictor knot (Klutz Book of Knots: gotta love it) around it. Maybe it was some subconscious desire for a rock to wind a piece of string around? Anyways, I spent the rest of the summer with it hanging from my belt, and none of my TMBG fan friends at camp noticed it either! Okay, all people farther along on the tour look out for Flans having a black eye. :) At the show I went to someone threw underwear at Flans. He kicked it under Brian's drum set. Is this some sort of common occurence, throwing misc. objects at Flans? -Mismirilda ------------------------------ From: Leo Bicknell Subject: Re: TMBG: Re: THE SHOW!!!! :) Date: Mon, 30 Dec 1996 22:46:04 -0500 (EST) > At the show I went to someone threw underwear at Flans. Nothing was thrown at Them when they opened for Hootie and whats-his-face in Omaha. I think it's more fun when bands throw stuff at the crowd...like Man...Or Astroman? throwing Little Debbie snacks (or Wonder Bread if they run out) to the crowd. Although tossing other things into the crowd, like people and farm animals, could be dangerous. Today while i was out i met someone whose HEARD of TMBG!!!!!!!!!! In case any remember me complaining theres no one in my town who knows them. well i was out skating, and me and my friend were talking to this kid,my friend, asked the kid" have yoo heard of they might be giants?" and the kid says "YEAH! there mad funny! i have one of their albums" me,impacient--- "WHICH ONE?" "APOLLO 18" and we talked a little. i mentioned in the statue got me high video theres astronauts skateboarding, and it was cool. ahh.....thats cool. for the list name, i dont think we need one,but my vote goes for LETTERBOX. i think its perfect, and it makes sense because the name is a NOUN,not a name like "i can hear you" or whatever. i think we should use a noun to name a noun, and not a phrase. (kaylum, back me up on this!) bye! Jordan ------------------------------ End of tmbg-list Digest #2-359 ******************************
