He got furious with me before Michael Shelley had even come on because he said I was "scooching". I just don't know where the positivity in the crowd was the other night. However, when you can't read the most basic kind of music one note >at a time, you are fairly talentless. hmmm.... no offense, but you're an idiot. paul mccartney, along with the rest of the beatles, was a music revolutionary. his basslines changed the way people thought about the instrument forever. his melodies were instrumental in shaping the direction of rock music. his production was light years ahead of his time. and guess what: he couldn't read music. could he have learned to read music if he had tried? of course he could have, but he didn't want to. why fuck up a good thing? he had an amazing innate talent that few musicians possess. he influenced an entire generation of music, and therefore, by default, all subsequent generations. if there had been no paul mccartney, i guarantee that they might be giants would not exist today. nor, for that matter, any of the music you hear on the radio these days (most of which is absolute shite which couldn't ever possibly compare to the craftsmanship of the beatles). nirvana was good too. not because of their instrumental prowess, or their revolutionary arrangements, but because they were tight and melodic and made some of the most powerful, emotionally-charged music i've ever heard. fuck the lyrics - the last person who could scream out a tune like kurt cobain was john lennon (i'm convinced that "smells like teen spirit" is simply "twist and shout" with more distortion and angstier lyrics). and the fact that you (i don't know if it was you, but it was someone on this list) think that dave grohl is a bad drummer gives me the impression that you have absolutely no clue. have you ever listened to their music, or are you just talking out of your ass? he pounded those skins like a motherfucker. what more do you want? polka? none of you care about any of this, so i'm going to stop now. chances are i won't even be reading any of the responses to this message. i now leave you to your mindless bickering about walmart and the size of your IQs and penises. y'all have a nice day now... opinionatedly, ben [a(sometimes)ka nub] *%@%*=--=*%@%*=--=*%@%*=--=*%@%*=--=*%@%*=--=*%@%*=--=*%@%*=--=*%@%*=--=*%@%* | | | "Every jumbled pile of person Ben Knowles - Vassar College | | has a thinking part that wonders beknowles@vassar.edu | | what the part that isn't thinking Physics - Astronomy | | isn't thinking of." - TMBG Photography Editor, Misc. | | | *%@%*=--=*%@%*=--=*%@%*=--=*%@%*=--=*%@%*=--=*%@%*=--=*%@%*=--=*%@%*=--=*%@%* ------------------------------ From: tmbgirl@juno.com Date: Sun, 27 Sep 1998 12:34:35 -0600 Subject: Re: TMBG: Digest problems Message-ID: <19980927.123438.12166.1.TMBgirl@juno.com> >okay, I posted a message 9/21 about some of my favorite bands, which, >incidentially, was the last digest I got (#10-18, I believe). Listen folks, name all of the bass players that you know, who actually MADE it BIG.Dammit people, George had lead, John had rythm, Ringo even had the goddamned DRUMS! But Paul... Paul had bass, one of the HARDEST instruments to hear in a group! George was good, John was better, even Ringo wasn't THAT bad, but Paul? Paul might not have had a leading instrument, but, dammit, Was JOHN (and I quote from Guinnes Book of world records) "World's most Successful Composer"??? No, dammit! Look on the bake of your Beatles CD's. Composers: Lennon/McCartney? Actually, not really... You see, early in their career, they made an agreement that they would both get credit for either one's songs. But, in reallity, Paul wrote most songs, while John colaborated... making little suggestions here and there, or vise versa. But, it was Paul who wrote the bulk of the Lennon/McCartney songs. But, composition was not the ONLY McCartney bit that entered Guinness's little book. The Lennon/*MCCARTNEY* song "Yesterday", is the world's most covered song. From Country, to R&B, to Easy Listning, and back to Rock again, "Yesterday" has been covered COUNTLESS times. In FACT, I'd like to hear They's version. I'd be soooooo cool to hear Linnell sing it. They were on for 45 minutes (and then love and rockets came on) they played: Dr. Worm [album] They Got Lost [album] Older [live] James K Polk [live] Istanbul (Not Constantinople) [live] two times (they were playing it too fast the first time so they started over) questions asked: #1 asked by "melissa" what do "y'all" do to prepare for a show? HELLO?!?! coffee. maybe it's just cuz i've lived my entire life in denver but i just don't think people shoudl be allowed to say "y'all" that many times in a sentence. #2 asked by "frank" what do you think of bootlegs. HAHAA! yes, they say they don't like 'em if you sell 'em but since they had to use bootlegs (from fans) for the album (all the PoTA tracks) they say they'd be hypocrites if they were against it. #3 asked by "Mike" when's Dr. Worm gonna be released on MTV? NONOOO!! the question should've been "when's dr. worm gonna be released to the public?" they said MTV has it already and that all the backstreet boys fans should start requesting it. #4 asked by "a.j" (who sounded like they were 8) what's the hardest song for you to play live? HELLO?!?! fingertips.... but uhm they just avoided the question and started talking about how hard it was to sing when you're sick Speaking of frank's question... i did bootleg the show... if you want it, check out http://www2.netcom.com/~arnot/joda/bootlegs.html or get in touch with me... max was making fun of love and rockets saying they've only done 1099 shows and that They Might Be Giants have done 1100. which leads me to my next question... And there was only room for two microphones and two johns. So it was just the Johns singing, flans with his guitar and linnel with a harmonica i believe (why he had a harmonica, or how he was able to play it while singing i do not know). So i got really pissed and started writing on the walls with a crayon, and the johns got mad at me and security kicked me out. i was really pissed because I'D WAITED FOREVER TOO SEE A TMBG CONCERT and it was rather disapointing, so i asked the security guy for my money back, and he gave me a nickel (though i remember i paid like $20 for it) So i got mad and threw the nickel into the audience of 20 and they all scrambled to get the nickel (were they jewish?) and the johns got even madder at me for disrupting the crowd. Then i ran outside crying and a guy got hit by a car. Has anybody else had dreams with TMBG in it? Oh, wait, no sex fantasies. ;) Seriously, though, I've had a non-sexual TMBG dream that I will tell you about now. Here goes: I was standing in this auditorium-type place with my father and my sister. My father is not a big fan of They (although he does "give them credit as modern poets"), and my sister has recently been converted, but she hadn't been at the time of this dream. There was some speaker standing on the stage, and then the speaker finished. While we were passing time waiting for the next speaker, suddenly I heard the song "Weep Day" start up behind me. So I ran toward the direction of the music (dragging my folks with me), and there they were! But by the time I got there, they were into some instrumental solo, because they weren't singing, and Linnell was sort of bent over with his arms stretched out at the ends of the keyboard. Of course, people were cheering like mad, and my dad said, "You know, they're much better live." I suppose that should have tipped me off that it was a dream! > ~Bat"Hopefully the real thing wont be so disapointing"Brain You probably won't be disappointed.
