I didn't like it that much at first (well, as much as one can dislike TMBG--They could attach Their name to white noise and I'd buy it), but it's a much better listen for me now. Perhaps seeing Them perform the songs live helped...I know that I didn't like Exquisite Dead Guy nearly as much until the Puppet-Heads on sticks sang it. Any comments? Message-ID: Hey, I just updated my sound page.. now featured are songs from the final Mercury Lounge show, on 12/18. As usual you can hear them in mp3 or wav formats, with RealAudio to come shortly. They are: Older - By request The Bells Are Ringing - Possibly the first time ever performed live, featuring Diana Harold on the vibraphone. O Tannenbaum - A spur of the moment performance of the classic Christmas song. Absolutely Bill's Mood - Performed during the Spy improv, Flans continues to conduct the band while singing. They Got Lost - Possibly the best performance of this song to date. I hope you enjoy them! -Mike http://www.cybercomm.net/~tdk/tmbg.html PS if you enjoy them, PLEASE sign my guestbook! ------------------------------ From: WeirdGiant@aol.com Message-ID: Date: Mon, 9 Feb 1998 15:33:53 EST Subject: Re: TMBG: First impressions << On the TMBG-content side, I realized the other day after listening to FS that it's really grown on me. I was freakishly surprised one day while playing Trivial Pursuit, when the question came up: 'What household cleanser boasted it cleaned like 'a white tornado'?' The samples are from old ads for that cleanser, which I think is the one they call 'Mr. Clean'. I was playing the istanbul ep in the car and my mother recognized the slogan. I'm sure it is not an original sound byte (or maybe it is). I just got on this list recently, and so this is my first chance to make a comment. Unfortuantely, I live in Gainesville, Florida, and haven't gotten the chance to see the Johns live yet. Well, getting on to the "First Impressions" part, a friend of mine got me started on the Giants almost a year ago, and after a lot of his, "Chris, you really gotta listen to these guys, they're the best," I finally got a taste of Their genius. Mostly, I remember it being the song, "Kiss Me, Son of God," that got me hooked. Since then, I haven't looked back, but did find it difficult to get used to the John Henry album. But, after awhile I grew to love it more and more, and it's a favorite of mine...but actually, they're ALL my favorites. So, now you know my story.
