I haven't been posting much, and all I've been doing on EFnet #tmbg is play around with the bot, so I felt I should reflect on current threads, oh me of infinite wisdom. 1. drinking- I've never had a drink in my life, so I don't know if I should talk. But I can't see how it would be "fun" to drink. I mean, you don't see people going around saying, "Man, I don't know about you, but I drink soda because it's FUN." As per using alcohol to get away from your problems, I think a more permanent solution is to actually confront your fears / problems or at least come to terms with them. Temporary solutions never work out in the end. Honestly, I don't care if you take my advice or not, but in the future, I think a lot of the people on the channel would appreciate it if we'd refrain from bragging about it. Man, I really shouldn't have made my "in the interest of list harmony" piece after my "state my position" piece. 2. "She's Actual Size" on STD- I wouldn't be surprised. I think I remember reading an interview where Johnny F said something about how he really didn't like how the album version came out, but it's too late to go back and change it. They did have horns on at least one date on the STD tour (hatch shell all the way, baby) and although they didn't play SAS there, I did catch it at another hornless show, and it came out pretty well. so I think it'll be on there. 3. New York City- well, everyone's entitled to their opinion. I kind of like it. I'm not sure if *everyone's* your friend in New York City, but as long as you don't act like an idiot the people seem cool. and where else can you find Godzilla? "no stick, bowl, bowl... no mountain dew, crab juice, crab juice." 4. new TMBG bassist- I have changed my name to Dan, and I'm playing bass now for TMBG. I wrote a song called "First Kiss" which John Flansburgh says is his. He's lying. 5. my own weird stuff- I had a dream last night where I went to this TMBG show in Connecticut, and all the people from my senior class (I just graduated- woohoo!) were there, and we met Flans before the show, and everyone was like, "whatever" but I was all psycho. He didn't like me at first, but eventually he pulled me aside when I brought up STD, and he talked to me about it. I forget what he said. Yeah I know, the most important detail. Oh well, maybe he'll tell me tonight. 6. british stereotypes- from what I've experienced, british people seem to have a better dry wit than most americans, which makes them cooler, since they get my jokes more often. I am the master of subtlety. Not in this post though, so don't look around for clues. 7. particle man- I saw the 120 minutes album in a store a while back and listened to it, and I *love* that version of "Particle Man"! Probably the best one I've ever heard? Am I nuts, or is it the rest of you? 8. that movie special on last night- I was so glad they picked Citizen Kane as #1. Well, assuming it wouldn't be Star Wars. What does everyone else think? Okay, sorry 'bout the long post. I also come from a family with a drunk for a dad, a guy who likes to argue, cause trouble. and I've always felt a lot of resent and anger towards him. I have admittedly also gotten drunk (I guess this makes me a major hypocrite), the purpose of it was to feel dizzy, and loose control. This is in fact my only purpose for getting drunk. I also have a very close friend who drinks, and he's very responsible about it, he's not abusive, won't go near a car in his state of intoxication, and yes I do worry about his health (I learned a lot of *scary* interesting things in Anatomy class) I think some of it has to do more with a person's personality then with the fact that they're filled with alcohol, drunk's can be entertaining, or scary, (believe me, I act like an idiot/asshole weather or not I'm drunk) I mean, when I personally get drunk, I loose physical control, and my emotions get stronger, and anything I think about is usually spoken in return, but I still generally think the same, I just have less control, I'm not saying all this to tell everyone my life story, I'm using my experiences to support my views (whatever tho's may be). But then again, since everybody is an individual, maybe drinkng experiences are different for everybody. I'm not supporting drinking or banishing it, I was just inspired by the thread to post my own views, people certainly have the right to bash alcohol, but people also have a right to support it. I guess what I'm sorta saying is that bullets don't see red, people do, is that a bad/good thing to say, I'm not so sure, it's 3:45 a.m., this is my only time to check my mail, I haven't had in alcohol, but I feel like I have, cause I've lost most of my physical control, and now I'm rambling... Kansas has did some good to me. I can go become an actor now. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAAHA. OH and whoever said something about American Schools being bad, know nothing of which they speak. #1 why do other countries have better scores in the samplings they send for the tests. The U.S. sends a random sampling of students, while other countries send a sampling of their best students. #2 in Japan there is no teacher/student interaction, it's mainly all book work with a teacher to scream at ya when you get off task. #3 Go to my school, gointo the ITV lab, look at all the equipment, then fly to a random country walk into their school and look for any equipment that is of equal or greater value. #4 I don't know about you but my school now has a T1 or T3 (I'm not exactly sure) and every class is hooked to the internet. Also if you get the choice between Block Schedual and Trimester Schedual at your school go for the Trimester, I've had both, and Trimester kicks block ass. There are a lot of problems which could be easily solved if more people would just get some initiative and work at it instead of complaining all the time. sure the schools suck (for the most part) and many polititions would rather vote for where-ever the money came from. but the joy of this country is that we have the power to not elect them again. After all, we, the voters, put them in power in the first place. And how bad can a country be where one is actually able to speak their mind without threat of death? So, if you have a problem with something, try doing something about it.
