The first listening of a new TMBG album is a SACRED event to me. Before Factory Showroom was released the entire album available over the net. It was an official Elecktra approved thing but still, it would have been a very inferior way to hear it for the first time. I want to to hear STD all its hi-fidelity glory. I made posts exactly like this one before FS came out and before THEN. I wouldn't mind hearing Dr. Worm on the radio since it's getting the single treatment but I can wait. Hearing a new song the first time at a TMBG show is obviously also acceptable. Anytime I'm strongly interested in something , (CD, movie, book) I try not to water down the experience before-hand. I know that I'm in the minority on this but the rest of you should try it sometime. -B O N G O [Attachment omitted, unknown MIME type or encoding (text/html)] ------------------------------ Message-Id: <199807180751.IAA14932@boober.lineone.net> From: "Paul Turner" Subject: TMBG: Spider for Coronation Street (incomprehensible outside the UK) Date: Sat, 18 Jul 1998 08:06:43 +0100 It occurred to me last night that Granada should organise the cast of Coronation St into doing a cover version of Spider to mark the eponymous character's election campaign. Consider yourself warned...this is a long message. ;-) For radio promos like Live!! NYC and the Kit Kat Acoustic Break and bootlegs like Dr. Spock's Backup Band, Derek, demand far outweighs the supply. Since I don't really have any better way to spend my time, I hunt for CDs, and I've found some fantastic stuff, including all 3 of the CDs listed above. However, it's not easy. It took me over around a year and a half of active searching to find Live!! NYC on CD, and I came across it sheerly by luck. (Actually, someone on alt.music.tmbg told me that Mod Lang had it, and I e-mailed them every couple of months and they eventually got a few copies in.) I think you seriously might want to consider getting Internet access. I found out about all 3 of those CDs through the 'net... I got Live!! NYC from information on alt.music.tmbg, the Kit Kat Acoustic Break by e-mailing damn near every college radio station in the country (slightly exaggerating, but I did e-mail about 60 or so), and I got Dr. Spock's Backup Band 'cause I'm on a bunch of bootleg companies' mailing lists. You probably have providers in your hometown that'll charge only $10-15 a month for access, and you'll find it well worth every cent. I've spent the past hour or so digging up e-mail addresses, web pages, and other information on places on the 'net that sell radio promos or accept want lists. This is by no means a comprehensive list, but I think you might find it pretty useful. I mean this, though - if this helps anyone, I expect a thank you letter. Seriously. Sure - the Kit Kat Acoustic Break is a series of radio shows sent to college stations...I think there were 10 CDs total, and each CD has 2 shows on it. The very first show featured TMBG...it was half an hour long, had interviews and 6 live acoustic songs. Dr. Spock's Backup Band is a live bootleg (the only confirmed professionally pressed bootleg CD) taken from a concert broadcast in June '92 on WXRT in Chicago. The quality's not quite as good as Live!! NYC, but the setlist and performances are soooo much better, IMO. -Adam -- /=---------------- http://www.he-man.org/ctyner/ ----------------=\ http://www.awod.com/gallery/rwav/ctyner/ The home of He-Man, "Weird Al", Yoo-hoo, Killer Tomatoes, and more! I wouldn't be quite that harsh, but I'd say that if you order from Tunnel, expect a long wait. I've ordered from them a few times...they've always come through for me, but most of the time it takes at least 4 or 5 months for me to get my CDs. Try to stick with only ordering stuff that's in-stock, and I recommend calling them instead of e-mailing them. UDMO (dogbone@voicenet.com) and Kiss The Stone (http://www.kissthestone.com/) are excellent bootleg CD suppliers, but none of them offer Dr. Spock's Backup Band, which is damn near impossible to find. (Even on their webpage, Tunnel has it listed as a 'no sale', which means that there's no guarantee that they can actually get it for you, althought they'll try.) -Adam -- /=---------------- http://www.he-man.org/ctyner/ ----------------=\ http://www.awod.com/gallery/rwav/ctyner/ The home of He-Man, "Weird Al", Yoo-hoo, Killer Tomatoes, and more!
