(well, trying to pick a song that >has a chance of being aired... ) > >just curious as to what kind of answers you guys'd have. :] Mine would begin with the song Fingertips (in its entirety). While the song was playing a man would be standing in the bathroom in a bathrobe, brushing his teeth in a mirror. Throughout the song the camera would be panning back, away from the man, out the window, into the sky, until by the end of the song we'd be looking at the earth from outer space. Then, when the song ends, the earth would morph into a cube. The rest of the movie would be about life on the cube-earth. Throughout the entire film people would make references to the edges and corners of the cubic earth, but the viewer would never get to see them, only hear about the strange and wonderful things that took place there due to their unique geography. I'm sure someone has already had this idea, though. For all I know this movie has already been made. Harf, Mitch "The world is full of magical things patiently waiting for our wits to grow sharper." If the poll is regarding the most influential person of the century, then you are wrong in your logic. Just because someone isn't doesn't mean they stop being influential. If you look at the number of Christians, then I would say Jesus was pretty influential to people in THIS century. NOW, if however, the poll is who was the most influential person BORN in this century, then I would say that you're logic is fine... BUT, the poll does NOT say the most influential person BORN this century, and so you can't infer it. ------------------------------ From: gray42@juno.com Date: Thu, 30 Jul 1998 12:47:15 -0400 Subject: Re: TMBG: TMBG movie song casting Message-ID: <19980730.125025.9222.1.gray42@juno.com> Hmmm, I actually created an 8 minute movie called "The Rodent From Mars, it included Why Does The Sun Shine and Jessica, and the Meat Puppets version of Whirlpool... hmmmmm. There'd be loads of things that go wrong with planes being missed and such.In a way like sleepless in Seattle, but actually funny. There would have to be about three sub-plots (a mafia connection, a mystery cat and a dubious suitcase full of stuff). Their are plenty more comusnists than there are christians. KARL >MARX #1 FLANSIE #2 Well, not all communists are Marxists, and Marx was not really the founder of communism (although he might well be the most influential communist). Also, some communists might also be Christians (even though Marx was an atheist). -- Nathan DinnerBell@tmbg.org http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Corridor/5447/ "The puffin sipped at his herbal tea and sighed, 'You can't get the buttons these days.'" ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Message-Id: <199807302247.SAA26432@daisy.snet.net> From: "dext182" Date: Thu, 30 Jul 1998 18:45:15 +0000 Subject: TMBG: TMBG-vote, help! help help please! see, i was surfing along the web one day, when i discovered the fact that good ol john l. had gotten #9 and good ole flans was currently number 13 on the century thing... and i wanted to do my part and vote... Well, we can either define everybody living in a Communist country as "Communist", which would be silly and wouldn't put you over a billion and a half anyway, or we can just count people who actually believe in Communism, of which there can't be more than a few hundred million even in China. Either way, China doesn't change the point, even if you do still consider it Communistic in character (and I do). > > plus: this is about the whole century, not just this decade. > [historical context snipped] All I was replying to was the statement that there are more Communists than Christians. It's a dreadfully weird thing to say, even if you use an extremely broad definition of Communism and an extremely narrow definition of Christianity. I was trying to stay on topic, but since you brought it up, I think Karl Marx *has* clearly had a much greater influence on this century than Jesus Christ. Since 1900, those societies that didn't go Marxist have changed themselves radically to fend off Marxism. His ideas have inundated every intellectual discipline outside the hard sciences, and his followers still have almost all the great universities of the western world in their sweaty palms. This was the Marxian Century, and thank God it's almost over. Maybe They Might Be Giants will dominate the next one. [Note last-minute insertion of list-relevant content] M.M'T.
