This is a variation of the TMBTide graphic from my cover of "He Might Be Jish," reformatted to be t-shirt friendly. i dunno if that takes all the charm out of it, but it will be a lot easier to print up, anyway. I was thinking we could add something to it, like www.tmbg.org, or "Official Mailing List Shirt", or "List Member", or "Freak" or whatever we want to show that it is the Mailing List shirt... Also, on the topic of legality and fairness, i think we should do this through TMB productions... sell the shirts and give any money that exceeds the printing costs to Them.. so that we would be actually helping them out.. it would not be breaking anyone to tack an extra dollar onto the price of each shirt to make sure that we are not going to rip them off or at least undercut their own t-shirt franchise.... I found the reference to the vivo file, which was: http://www.vidnetusa.com/video/pp/tmbg1pp.viv Click on that link to download the file, then you need to make an html file, in the same directory, with the following code in it:
Depending on whether or not, when you download the movie, it keeps its .viv extension, you may have to add the extension on. When I downloaded it, it cut it off, so I simply changed the name so it had .viv at the end. Sorry for the oversimplification of these instructions, I just don't want thousands of people emailing me with a 'What the hell does that mean?' message. Have fun. If you have the vivo plugin in netscape, all you have to do is go to "open file" in netscape and you should be able to open the movie directly in the browser without creating a new html file. They played Dr. Worm twice. They opened with it, and it was one of their last songs. They also played Shoe Horn, lie still little bottle, twistin, Polk, NYC, Head, SEXXY, Particle Man, Birdhouse, Actual Size, They Got Lost, Dig my grave, The Guitar, No one knows my plan, Istanbul, Turn around, Battle for the Planet of the Apes, and thats all I remember. It was a very good show. There was some lady and some guy who were making out through the entire show right in front of me. They were about 45 and overweight. The lady kept trying to make out with any guy she could find. Eventually, she fell down drunk near the front of the stage. This was my 6th TMBG and the first one where one of the John came out to sign autographs after the show! Imagine my suprise when, as I was walking to our car, John F. was standing there amidst a crowd signing autographs! ACK! I got my shirt signed. I'm used to them playing a much longer set at the 9:30 club. I've seen them there four times, and the first two, they played for almost two hours. this time and the last, it was just under an hour and a half. they played 24 songs (as opposed to the 30 or so they used to), and two of them were Dr. Worm. of course, if they're going to play a song twice, that's quite a nice selection... I swear they use fake hair - Flans' hair was buzz cut in May and June, and is now quite floppy. Linnell's was also chopped in June, but is quite long now. (for reference, Linnell looked about like he did in the 1994 House of Blues video - same shirt and everything) and, it appears that Linnell is making some attempt at a beard. either that or he left his razor in Brooklyn. the horn players were cool, and present for almost every song (even They Got Lost!) and were prancing around their monitors and mics during Birdhouse. it was amusing. I think Dan has become a better bassist than the last time I saw him play with TMBG... they did S-E-X-X-Y and the bass parts didn't sound too bad... (and they were written by Hal Cragin, and we all know how great he is on bass :) and the cool bonus of the night - Flans remembered the words to Why Does the Sun Shine! "Without the sun, without a doubt, there'd be no you and me." I was pleased. :) let's see what else... the confetti hit the disco ball (after the bass and stick in Lie Still pushed the cannon so it would shoot directly at the audience, and the cannon tech came out and fixed it :) Flans commented about the disco ball, and inadvertently referenced a song that they didn't play - End of the Tour. "[the person who provided the disco ball] owns it... and he takes it with him at the end of the tour..." that was met by quite a few shouted requests. Ana Ng was left out, which really surprises me... I'm also kind of surprised that How Can I Sing Like a Girl and Snail Shell were absent... (not that I'm displeased about that, just surprised. :) certainly not their best 9:30 appearance.... but, then again, I don't think many of their shows are as good as the August, 1996 9:30 club show... of course, those who haven't seen many shows should take my review with a large grain of salt - I've seen them enough that I've seen a lot of great shows (october, 1994 in DC; august, 1996 in DC; september, 1997 in Philly; etc...) and plenty of bad ones (october, 1997 in DC; april, 1998 in Pittsburgh; August, 1998 in DC) Lawrence Solomon http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/~lps/ lps@andrew.cmu.edu "Everything sticks until it goes away, * This space inadvertently And the truth is we don't know anything." -TMBG * left blank. ------------------------------ End of tmbg-list Digest #9-30 *****************************
