Did any of you guys hear that Douglas Adams tried to make a THGTTG movie before in the early 80's before the BBC miniseries? In the interview he said "That when I went to Hollywood to do the Hitchhiker's movie. Yes, WHAT Hitchhiker's movie you ask?" I didn't know they were trying again until reading this here mailing list a while back. I'd like to see Disney's version. If they handle it well, Zaphod would actually (gasp gasp) use his 3rd arm and 2nd head. If not and totally commercialize it to the lowest common denominator, we always have the BBC tv version, eh? Has any of the towel-totin' fans read "Young Zaphod Plays it Safe" which they only put in those $15 omnibus editions of the series? I'm wondering if it's any good. Looks more like a novella than an actual novel. Oh yeah, and is there a big difference between the tv and radio editions? I saw a huge transcript of the radio one years ago, but I was like "I own every book, why bother?". I've only read "Slaughterhouse Five" and that's only because my Dad told me what it's about years ago. I don't think I've ever gotten a book due to a band singing about it. I sincerely doubt TMBG is gonna sing about my favorite books anyway. And porn? What's with THAT guy? Must've listened to S-E-X-X-Y too much. And no one on the >Pulp >lists seem to want the Pulp stuff.. c'est tres odd) I've been thinking of possible reasons for this, and have come up with a few possibilities: 1. Old TMBG singles are rare. Of course, this is true for pretty much any single that was released so long ago. "WDTSS?" in particular is surprisingly easy to find for a single that was released five years ago. 2. Many TMBG EP B-sides are songs that can't be heard anywhere else. Some other bands release EP's that only contain tracks from their albums. I don't know if such is the case with Blur or Pulp, but if it is, it would explain a lot (or maybe only a little, but it would certainly explain something). 3. TMBG seems to attract obsessive fans, who want to obtain everything TMBG-related that comes on the market. I often hear of people who buy _Lincoln_ when they already have _Then_, or something along those lines. -- May you live in interesting times, Nathan DinnerBell@tmbg.org http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Corridor/5447/ ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Message-ID: <36C85064.A47F50A5@pop.drake.edu> Date: Mon, 15 Feb 1999 10:50:45 -0600 From: Jason Arnold Organization: Drake Subject: Re: [OT]TMBG: mac mp3 player If you want to get the most current version of the MacAmp go to http://www.macamp.com . If you live somewhere that TMBG is ultra popular...well, somewhere that they're popular enough to sell out in all the record stores in a certain area (because the record stores actually get their albums and Singles), you might never be able to set a finger upon what you're looking for. At the same time, if you live someplace where there are still some people crawling out of the primordial sludge (like Nebraska), you'll probably never see anything other than Flood and some of the newer albums just lying on the shelves collecting dust. And I also think that JOrdaN was right about the tmbg message board perhaps being more your cup of tea. I'd even go so far as to recommend going to the TMBG.com Chat, as things can be rather risque in there at some times, and at other times, just plain offensive (lots of people find direct insults and lies funny). Feel free to post to the list all you want, but try not to accuse us of being ignorant to your posts when we're not. I've seen people ignore posts :) When I posted about 6 months ago and didn't know much about TMBG and spelled Linnell with one 'l', I didn't get a single reply. If you do, indeed, mean the opening theme to HHGTTG BBC Miniseries, I believe the title is otherwise "Voyage of the Sorceror" or "Journey of the Sorceror" by the Eagles. I used to have the CD it was on, but then sold it in a momentary lapse of conciousness (The Album is One of These Nights).
