While in Mulders body, the MIB cleaned out Mulder's bedroom, which was filled w/ x-files and porn mags, and bought a waterbed and a mirrored ceiling. At the end of the two parter, they switch back and forget about the whole incident, except the waterbed remained. This week's episode was co-written by two guys who co-wrote the double-parter, so that explains why it pops up again. Message-ID: <19990209.073305.7358.2.Phone_Book@juno.com> From: Renquist L Hedgeloff *cackle* Sir Jay, JHC, the list's resident Christ figure, has returned! Not that I was ever really gone, mind you, but it's been ever so long since I had the inclination to post to the group--and now my boredom has made the unexpected decision to do so. Ah, how I've missed this: the power exists within my fingertips (no pun intended) either to influence or annoy several hundred They Might Be Giants fans ... or perhaps one follows the other. On to more relevant matters. Just a few moments ago, Adam Trimble wrote: "Anyway love is a commitment not a feeling and lust is the feeling corresponding to that commitment." Where did that come from? Surely you weren't around for the list debate concerning sexual lust's position in the romantic state of love? Perhaps you were; I cannot remember, though your email suggests not. Well, to counter: I cannot speak for you and will not speak for the vastly different opinion of myself, but the majority of persons seem to concur that sexual lust is an outcropping of love, not the other way around. For example: approaching you is the most beautiful woman you've ever seen; for appearance's sake you are completely enamored, and almost immediately lust after her physical form. However, upon nearing you, she sneers and says "Yeah RIGHT. You? In your dreams, buddy," and knees you in the groin before walking away. Certainly, you've lusted, but have you loved? No. She's obviously a sociopath, and 'sides, you don't even know her. I digress that one may lust after one he loves, but love is a commitment for finding beauty and companionship in someone, with or without sex. It is not solely the commitment binding sexual partners. Ah! I've scared you away with my off-topic neandering! Forgive me. FAVORITE JOHN: Ooh. Being a straight male, I'm afraid the Linnell's physical beauty doesn't not sway me. I enjoy Flansburgh's outgoing attitude and appreciate having the chance to speak with him after concerts; musically, however, Linnell, though not virtuosic, is more capable, and I do enjoy listening to his songs more. However much I love "It's Fun To Steal," I'd take the few State Songs I've heard over it any day. It's a trade-off. I like 'em both. FAVORITE FINGERTIP: "Something grabbed a hold of my hand--I didn't know what had my hand, but that's when all my trouble began ..." There's something creepy but upbeat about that one, sort of Turn Around-like yet more mysterious in the implied circumstance. What grabbed a hold of her hand? Imagination grants us images. A close second is Flansburgh crooning "fingertips, fingertips" with a southern accent over the banjo. Hooray! THE MP3 ALBUM: Beating a dead horse causes the victim no pain. I keep two beliefs concerning this: A) Due to the limited base of potential customers for such a service and the Johns' obvious knowledge that they will be bootlegged (yeah, I know that doesn't make it right), they must realize that making much money is out of the question. B) These songs have been previously released, and can be heard elsewhere without purchase. Keeping those two facts in mind, only the greediest of individuals would expect their fan base to purchase previously released (albeit on dial-a-song and poor quality) material; thusly I see this as more of a fan service than anything else. Sure, it'd be nice for me to pay for them .. but, well, seeing as I cannot listen to music on this computer, have no credit card, and the only way I'll hear the songs is on a lower-quality tape anyway .. why should I? And why should I pass up the chance to hear them if given to me? Just because this sort of venue of selling recorded material invites bootlegging does not make it worse for us to do so. I am done. Hooray! peace, love, and good happiness stuff, jay. ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
