Every conversation I've ever had regarding TMBG... Friend/Relative/Other Person: "What's your favorite band?" Me: "They Might Be Giants." Them: "Who?" Me: "They're not a very well-known band, but I love them." Them: "Oh." From there, I've had some people hear it at my house and think it was good, in which case, I make them a tape. When I called the KY Center for the Arts originally about this show, they told me it would be in a smaller theatre in the Center. Then, when the info was posted on their website, it said the show was at the Brown. The tickets I've purchased say the Brown. The radio commercial I heard two days ago said the Brown. The website, as of today, still says the Brown. So, If this is true, the change has *just* happened. Since the KY Center box office had the wrong info originally, it's possible they still have the wrong info available to the people answering the phone there. OG is the town where Woody Allen filmed "Stardust Memories." Me and my friend Gina ran into Woody in OG while he was filming -- he was alone, and we said "hi!", but he said nothing in return. (This was 1979 or 1980, and I was 14 at the time.) He just stood across the street, and stared at us in our short-shorts ;-) . My husband and I drove past The Stone Pony and surrounding now-ghost-town of Asbury Park just a few weeks ago (we now live in Linden, NJ, which is one hour north of Asbury), and The Stone Pony, which later became a techno club, is now closed. From what I've been told, The Pony was sold because someone wanted to turn it into a jazz club. Rather than seeing all the rock element go out of the club, the owners gave it up (probably to the town or developers). You want to see a real-life modern ghost-town of a place that used to be my hang out as a teen, and was THE vacation spot at the Jersey shore for the more wealthy at the turn of the century, go drive along the ocean at Asbury Park. Bring a camera. I got a lot of interesting shots of the Casino building in it's current state of desperate disrepair -- and it still shocks me to look at them. My husband and I walked along the boardwalk there about a year ago, and everything was closed, with the exception of Howard Johnson's and Convention Hall, at the North end of the boards. We went into the HoJos, and the place was dead, with the exception of the skeleton staff and this old lady that was sitting in a corner booth, trying to tell us about the history of Asbury in it's heyday, how everything's changed now, and would we like to buy any of her old souvenirs? I felt so sorry for her, I bought some cool ancient postcards from her. The cards had wonderful pics of the city in the height of it's popularity...people swimming in the ocean in ankle-length bathing suits, the arcades, old popcorn and peanut vending carts, the Easter Parade, ladies and gentlemen in carriages on the boardwalk, ladies in corsets who were sporting parasols. I use the postcards as a "before" view and my current photos as the "after" in a scrapbook I've made up. I've heard recently that new plans are being drawn up for the restructuring of the shore at Asbury, and that some people see investment possibilities in the shorefront property -- I'm just hoping that that's true... Didn't mean to ramble, really -- but you hit upon a place I have a lot of feelings for. And now, back to your regularly scheduled programming :-) Karen "No, no, no! Down, down, down! But I have a rather complex personality, and am only childish when I'm in the mood for it. More people say I'm tomboyish than childish. My husband is a clown, and brightens everyone around him, and he can be childish sometimes, too. But I really like that about him (he is 34 years young). The fact that my musical tastes run younger than my husband's (as well as being an affectionate person who is interested in what my children are thinking and experiencing) is what allows me to keep a closer bond with my 13-year-old daughter. It is currently the main bond that keeps my "if I could, I'd live in my room 24 hours a day" 15 year-old son interested in what I have to say. I have already realized if I start to talk Mp3s, and TMBG, and "what bands are you listening to this week?", he warms right up to me, and isn't muttering things under his breath any longer. And once we start talking music at length, a lot of things he's been keeping to himself come flooding out. Karen "come as you are" Riley MuseKJ@aol.com P.S. Yes, the venue has changed. It's back to the Bomhard, as it was supposed to be originally. I just had a fairly lengthy conversation with a woman at the box office, who also happens to have tickets to the show herself. Here are the main points: They are calling everyone who's already purchased tickets to let them know the venue's changed and all tickets are now GENERAL ADMISSION. Apparently, TMBG themselves made the decision to make the change due to slow ticket sales. This new theatre only holds around 665 people. The woman I talked to thinks it's great that the venue's changed. According to her there isn't a bad seat in the house because the place was designed specifically for children's theatre (i.e., little short people that can't stay in their seats). Apparently, the view is good and unobstructed from everywhere. There will be *no* opening act, TMBG will go on at 8 pm. ~~~~~~~~~~ I'm disappointed that the band couldn't generate more ticket sales (and since the radio ads have really *just* started, I wonder if they're jumping the gun) around here. But, this isn't New York and with other shows so close by this last week or two (Cincy and Indy) we're probably not pulling some of the regional fans we might have. On the other hand, it sounds like it will be a fun, intimate little show. All I could see doing the triangle thing with their habds during Particle Man were a select few. I had a good time and it was a pretty good show even thought there were some rude people around us who got there late and pushed us so they could get up closer to talk to their friends in between the opening act and Them. These were the same girls that were throwing their numbers and flirting with the singer for the opening band. It was really funny when he asked them if they were going to babysit for him. I couldn't see very well though. Why is it the niggest people in the place have to stand in the very front. I was behind some guy who was like 6' 5" and 300+lbs. My boyfriend offered to put me on his shoulders but that would have been rude to the people behind us. Another thing, I know it's been discussed before but...don't you just feel like Linnel is staring at you during the show? It's kind of freaky. Anyways, the power kept going out before the show so we started to get nervous. I said that They could play acoustic so the show would go on. That's all for now. I just recorded a song on my computer as a .wav. It's a little over 3 and a half minutes long, and yet it takes up over 8 friggin megabytes of memory. Does anyone know how I can make this a smaller file without chopping out parts of the song? Thanks.
