The extra violin is in the song as it appears on the album. It's right at the beginning, at a much reduced volume. The just didn't fade it in for the video. -Jay ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 09 May 1999 05:04:40 -0400 From: The Great Quux Message-ID: <37354FA8.21B04D77@stardatecomputer.com> Organization: Stardate Computer Systems Subject: Re: TMBG: Thoughts on song selection "Jay G." wrote: > understand it, Electra didn't want to put out Reprehensible for > some strange reason. The other songs, although of no worse Are you for REAL? I thought they were just kidding around in that introduction to Reprehensible (on the www.tmbg.net/irc/offer.html page)... well, that's insane. Maybe one of the Elektra higher-ups really believes in reincarnation or something. I agree with you wholeheartedly about listening to an album in one sitting, or half a sitting -- my commute to my college is about 25 minutes, so I usually have time to listen to half of an album on the way there, and the other half on the way back, and when I say 'listen' I mean, of course, 'sing at the top of my voice'. I wish my commute were longer. :( -- Mike Russo, www.walrus.com/~stardate, Brooklyn, NY -- "I hereby declare our city a free and independent state to be named Tri-Insula!" --Fernando Wood, Mayor of NYC 1861 ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 09 May 1999 05:09:48 -0400 From: The Great Quux Message-ID: <373550DC.CEDDADB6@stardatecomputer.com> Organization: Stardate Computer Systems Subject: Re: TMBG: Thoughts on song selection Lawrence P Solomon wrote: > Other examples: I looked on the tmbg.org lyrics archive, and it says there was an early version of 'I palindrome I' that was completely different and sung by Flans, so maybe they have the same ideas more often than not. I envision something similar to Beethoven's 16th, short movements but oh so hummable (the very short theme at the beginning of the 1st movement is like the short theme at the beginning of the Guitar, both of which are subtly repeated later, maybe I'm reading a little too much into it....) -- Mike Russo, www.walrus.com/~stardate, Brooklyn, NY -- "I hereby declare our city a free and independent state to be named Tri-Insula!" --Fernando Wood, Mayor of NYC 1861 ------------------------------ Message-Id: <4.1.19990509102148.00937340@130.127.28.14> Date: Sun, 09 May 1999 10:24:27 -0400 From: Adam Tyner Subject: Re: TMBG: Thoughts on song selection At 05:04 AM 5/9/99, The Great Quux wrote: > >Are you for REAL? They said that while introducing several of the 'new' songs from the 2/21/97 show. Well, since the chorus contains only seven words, I think we can safely give Flans most of the credit for this song's lyrics. >Other examples: > >Cowtown was written entirely by Linnell and sung by Flans. >Subliminal is Linnell's music and Flans' lyrics (lyrics came first) > >Shoehorn with Teeth was pretty much a joint effort, I think - and if >you >listen carefully to the verses, the first one, sung by Flans, seems >to >fit Linnell's shy personality, while the second verse, sung by >Linnell, >seems to fit well with Flans' whole "rock" attitude. (I'm pretty >sure >the music is Linnell's, though, since it's written for Clarinet and >Saxophone) "Spider" was started by Linnell, and finished by Flans. I'm not entirely sure which parts were written by which John, but I do know that the lounge trumpet was Flans's idea. "James K. Polk" was written by Linnell and Matthew Hill, and "The Edison Museum" was written by Linnell and Brian Dewan. Tony Maimone and Brian Doherty are given writing credit for "AKA Driver," as is Hal cragin for "S-E-X-X-Y." Many Mono Puff songs are joint efforts by several band members. I would imagine that the members write the parts for whatever instruments they play. I would suppose that most improvisational songs (like the "Apes" tracks) are joint efforts by whoever is in the band at the time, although the Johns usually seem to call the shots. -- May the light shine upon thee, Nathan Mulac "It's just a full day's drive away" DeHoff DinnerBell@tmbg.org http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Corridor/5447/ _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web.
