(which i've tried and received no response yet, but it can't hurt to try again) and just out of curiosity, how many people on this list besides me are from australia? because i'm on the magical armchair (the ben folds five mailing list) and there are heaps of australians on there, it's weird. hey, and i just discovered some groovy coincidences: both 'live noise' by moxy fruvous and mono puff's 'it's fun to steal' were released on my birthday (may 19th) in different years, both before i'd even heard of them. spooky. Message-ID: <24035-372D290B-14070@postoffice-243.iap.bryant.webtv.net> OH MY GOD!!! Yesterday was such a great day, for one particular moment. I was in my local used record store, I had a few bucks that was supposed to be spent at a fair I was going to later that day, but hey...it's used music, how can you not buy? So anyway, I picked up Harvey Danger's "Where Have All The Merry-Makers Gone?" and a C.D. titled "Memory is an Elephant" by this awesome jazz/folk instrumental group called Tin Hat Trio. Well, while looking in the "T" section for the Tin Hat Trio, I come across none other than the "I Palindrome I" e.p.! Can you believe that?! What idiot would sell this for the mere $1 or so they give you there?! I almost sh*t myself. I knew how rare this was, and here it was, being held in my hand, a C.D. by my favorite band, that I've seen being bid on at ebay for $40, only for the low, low price of $3.99, so of course, I bought it! After making my purchase, I politley told the cashier that they were ABSOLUTELY INSANE!!! Only $3.99 for what any TMBG fan would pay more. They didn't know what the hell I was talking about, but no matter my day had already been made. Upon taking it home, and listening to it (it's very good by the way. "Larger Than Life," the "She's Actual Size" remix is about the only rap I can stand) I realized that I'm lucky, 'cause I do actually have alot of rare TMBG, and TMBG related material. So, I have now decided that the first person to E-mail me, will get a cassette copy of all my rare items (if I get off my butt and get some more blank tapes, I'll make more copies). Who's gonna' be the lucky list member? Track listings are available upon request. Okay, that's it for me. for now at least... -dex ------------------------------ From: Carroll387@aol.com Message-ID: <698f5a9b.245e8320@aol.com> Date: Mon, 3 May 1999 00:42:08 EDT Subject: Re: TMBG: Otis Ball Does anyone have Otis Ball's "walk on water" on cd? that could possibly rip onto mp3 and send it to me? if not perhaps i'll attempt to get the seller to rip it for me. eRiCh Y'know that's a very good question. Actually, there is a CD that should be out in local stores (like Tower Records) right now called "Time for a Change." It's the BAR/NONE sampler two. this CD has many great artists that are er, were signed to the label bar none. From They Might be Giants to Brain Dewan...and yes, to answer your question there are two songs by Otis Ball & the Chains. However, only one song by Otis contains both Johns singing back up in it. Actually, it's track number four which is called "Walk on the Water." A popish fifties jive that's pretty rockin'. Hey! Tell ya what. If you can make it to the Giants show in NYC on the 15th. Perhaps we can work out something out of where I can make a dub for you and give it the tape to you at the show. Just let me know. But you really should check this song out. It's pretty cool. Okay, take care. See you later. ~Carroll387 ------------------------------ End of tmbg-list Digest #17-3 *****************************
