I don't think they want their poll to be seen as a joke (with drunken midgets topping the list.) Flans made it into the the Time "Person of the Century" online poll but Time rejected all the votes that they felt were inappropriate (including Flans and Hitler) and just left the Ghandi and Churchill types. I don't think they want their poll to be seen as a > >joke (with drunken midgets topping the list.) How can anyone see a "most beautiful people" poll as anything BUT a joke? Well, I guess it could be used as a kind of anthropological study (seeing what people and characteristics are generally judged as "beautiful" for our society), but you know what? It isn't. It's just a way to sell more magazines. >Flans made it into the the Time "Person of the Century" online poll >but >Time rejected all the votes that they felt were inappropriate(including >Flans and Hitler) and just left the Ghandi and Churchill >types. Which made it into even more of a joke than it was before. "Let's ask the people what they think, and then just use our own choices anyway." Oh, well. That's American society for you. What does "person of the century" MEAN, anyway? If it means the most influential person, wouldn't Hitler surely rank above Churchill? Would Churchill have ever become so famous if he hadn't had a Hitler to fight against? But you can't exactly put Hitler on a Time magazine cover. Once again, it's commercialism that's really driving the poll. I doubt Flans would make it to a Time magazine cover for the same reason (the commercialism, I mean; not because Flans is an evil maniac who killed a bunch of people). "Whimsical," my ass. Flans just won't sell as many magazines as someone like Einstein. -- Eat your broccoli, Nathan DinnerBell@tmbg.org http://www.geocities.com/fablesto/ ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20000421185818.55098.qmail@hotmail.com> From: "Ian The Bold" Subject: Re: TMBG: Burn a CD? Message-ID: To burn mp3's as mp3's you dont need any special program besides what came with the drive.. mp3's are just date. of course, do rememebr that these will only be of use to you on a computer. cd players do not play mp3s! even if you write the to a CD. that would be like putting JPEGs on a CD and expecting your sony discman to describe the picture to you. To burn an mp3 so you can listen to it on any cd player, you need to "decode" it. it doesnt take much. winamp does it (its called the diskwriter plugin (plugins --> output). once you have these decoded audio files (they will be in .wav format and will be huge (8to 9 Megs / minute)), you can write them to a CD. make sure you tel lthe program you're doing an sudio cd. thatsohould be all --kevin On Fri, 21 Apr 2000, Ian The Bold wrote: > Is there a program you can buy or download that will allow you to burn > MP3's? (Found out that the show exists through Pollstar, in case you're curious.) As far as I can tell, the SUNY Binghamton site (www.binghamton.edu) contains no information on the matter. Someone posted to the newsgroup that it'd be "sometime during the day" with no info on tickets, etc. Any help on this would be appreciated. Any Fruheads out there, note that if this show starts at 1PM or so, there will probably be time to make the 2.5 hour drive to Geneseo to catch the 8PM Fruvous show. (Also planning on seeing Moxy the previous night in Freedonia. *grin*) Mike Leffel thanks you.
