It's quite a coincidence that today is his birthday, as it is my band's first real gig today as well. I didn't think it was their greatest show. They played a very short set, only about 80 minutes, and seemed really tired, which is understandable. They didn't do a whole lot of talking either. The crowd was pretty small too which was dissapointing. I'd give a setlist, but I can't remember...I just know they opened with Subliminal. That was awesome. I was dissapointed that they just cut the song off without going into the cool "rewind" part of the song, or whatever that is. The only 'new' songs they played were cyclops rock, boss of me (which sounds much better as a 30 second song, and not a 3 minute song) and robot parade. Everything else besides subliminal was the usual. I'd say the best part of the night was when my friend and i got You Were SPiraling's setlists, and got them autographed. Those guys sound so great live. I asked tom, the lead singer, and he said they hope to tour with tmbg agai in the fall or winter, whenever the next 'tour' is. If anyone has a setlist for the show, could you type it up and mail it to the list? I'd like to see the songs they played in order. I have a bad habit of forgetting absolutely everything about a concert the next morning. Oh, one other thing, I had the good fortune of meeting Flansburgh...kinda. I was walking out the doors to where they were selling shirts and walked right into his back, didn't even see him. I just kinda apologized without looking at him, and I didn't realize it was him till I walked on by and glanced back to see him walking upstairs. Oh well, he seemed pretty busy anyway. Ok, I think that's all the in-coherent rambling I have to say...if anyone else wants to give a little review of the show, id love to hear it. Date: Sat, 6 May 2000 22:31:50 -0400 Okay, so a few friends and I are planning to put on a sketch show using all original material, and I remembered the time that a friend and I were thinking about what it would be like if TMBG did a cover of Limp Bizkit's Nookie (bearing in mind, it's a horrible, puerile, not to mention popular song). I also thought we could attempt a barbershop quartet number. So, this is the favor: Write a barbershop quartet version of Nookie as if it were a cover by TMBG. There's an important bit of wordplay involved here: the title will instead be "New Key." I'm pretty sure it would involve a guy who's trying to get into his house, but can't because he lost his key, so he would need to get a (see title). ("and then i'll take that new key, and stick it in the--LOCK! stick it in the--LOCK!") I'm also writing other sketches, but you have to admit, this is a toughie. I need everyone's help! Thank you. I'd be willing to help some fellow fans out, but I certainly don't have the credit limit to get it for everyone on the list. Perhaps if there are enough of us on the list willing to help our fellow fans out, we can make sure as many people as possible get the new EP. By the way, last I heard, if you're one of the first 10,000 people to get the EP in mp3 format, you also got a real, tangible, conventional CD copy of it as well, so don't let the mp3 thing discourage you.
