I forgot about "Christmas at the Zoo". Its a great song and it has "Christmas" in the title and lyrics but it really doesn't have much of a Christmas feel to it. I hope to see the Lips play this Friday. Maybe they'll do that one since its close to Xmas. I've had the "Christmas Cards" single for a few years now but haven't heard it because I don't have a turntable. Is it on twistid? Finally, although its not an Xmas tune, "Festival of Lights" (if thats what its called) would fit a holiday mix. -B O N G O From owner-tmbg-list@tmbg.org Tue Nov 14 16:20:15 2000 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by ussenterprise.ufp.org (8.9.3/8.9.2) id QAA88375 for tmbg-list-outgoing; Tue, 14 Nov 2000 16:20:15 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from owner-tmbg-list@tmbg.org) Received: from hotmail.com (f166.law7.hotmail.com [216.33.237.166]) by ussenterprise.ufp.org (8.9.3/8.9.2) with ESMTP id QAA88366 for ; Tue, 14 Nov 2000 16:20:14 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from xornom@hotmail.com) Received: from mail pickup service by hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC; Tue, 14 Nov 2000 13:19:43 -0800 Received: from 129.25.13.243 by lw7fd.law7.hotmail.msn.com with HTTP; Tue, 14 Nov 2000 21:19:43 GMT X-Originating-IP: [129.25.13.243] From: "Nathan Mulac DeHoff" To: tmbg-list@tmbg.org Subject: Re: TMBG: Christmas Songs (It's right there!) The Careless Santa thread comes up every year, much to many listies' chagrin. By way of an ACTUAL reply, here's the tracklist of a christmas CD I made for all my friends in 1998, and have been giving to people ever since. It's called "Boy, Get That Stocking Out Of Your Mouth!" I made a cover 'n' everything, it's gotten great reviews, and I'm quite proud of it: 1. soul coughing - suzy snowflake 2. the vandals - oi to the world 3. flaming lips - xmas at the zoo 4. south park - i'm a lonely jew 5. tmbg-santa's beard 6. squirrel nut zippers - carolina xmas 7. bad religion - god rest ye gerry mentlemen 8. "tom waits" and "peter murphy" - xmas song (found this on an unlabeled CD at my college radio station, no idea of the actual title or artist, but it's obviously a joke about what tom and peter would write for an xmas song) 9. Steve Martin-SNL xmas wish 10. dandy warhols-little drummer boy 11. arrogant worms-the christmas song 12. mono puff-yyyyyyyyyyyeah. you know. that one song. 13. weird al-xmas at ground zero 14. thurl ravenscroft-you're a mean one, mr. grinch 15. the ramones-merry xmas (I don't want to fight tonight) 16. monty python-xmas in heaven 17. run dmc-xmas in hollis 18. the chipmunks-xmas don't be late 19. tmbg-o tannenbaum 20. descendents-xmas vacation 21. fountains of wayne-hannukah under the stars 22. squirrel nut zippers-santa claus is smoking reefer 23. the simpsons-jungle bells (robert goulet version) 24. cocteau twins-frosty the snowman 25. bad religion-joy to the world 26. south park-o holy night 27. weird al-the night santa went crazy 28. sailor moon-akahana no tonakai (rudolph) 29. beck-little drum machine boy 30. tmbg-we just go nuts at xmastime I heartily recommend any of the preceding songs for a holiday album. Tho this year I may cut the tom waits thing, mr. grinch (with the new movie, people are gonna be way sick of it), and the south park o holy night... and replace the night santa went crazy with the Extra Gory Version now that I found that mp3... and put some new stuff on there instead. I'm waiting on some good new recommendations from this thread... I made a couple at cost (CD-R [$1, nowadays] + shipping) for people on this list in 98, and I spose I could do that again if anyone wants. I've only been getting the list for a couple of months... Anyways, that X-mas list is great. And to add a few more of the ones I've found in my search, a lot of stuff from the recent Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classics is surprisingly really good. "Christmas Time in Hell" is really clever, "Merry Fuckin' Christmas" is brilliantly irreverent, and "The Most Offensive Song Ever" is almost what it says it is, but the way it's done is a true sign of genius, I think. And I've already mentioned these, but "Father Christmas" by the Kinks and "I Want An Alien for Christmas" by Fountains of Wayne are also pretty good, though the latter's lyrics are disappointingly stupid. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Get more from the Web.
