First off, the opening band, Ok Go, surprisingly managed to not completely suck. (Although I still would have preferred to see Sapphire Bullets....) My wife also points out that it's an appropriate name for an opening band. I was also impressed that the "between bands" background music featured tracks from We Might Be Giants, Too, as well as TMBG stuff like "Your Mom's Alright".... They opened with rockin' versions of WDTTS and Boss of Me. Maybe it was just the lighting, but Linnell looked *wasted*. He was extremely pale and had bags under his eyes, and didn't seem too thrilled to be there at first..... I didn't write down the setlist, but as someone mentioned about the Irvine show, there weren't too many surprises (other than It's Not My Birthday, which was cool). What *did* surprise me was Flansburgh saying before *three* different songs, "Here's a new song you can probably get off Napster or something." Two of those songs were Older and Cyclops Rock, which you can *buy* at Emusic and in theory support the band a bit more than Napster would. Is the Flans-man no longer as pleased with Emusic these days, or did he just not feel like promoting it? Weird. Anyway, I had to leave the show early due to my wife getting sick, so I'd be interested to hear what songs they played during the encore(s).... Anyone? --slothdog ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 01 Feb 2001 13:11:28 -0500 From: scratch Message-ID: <3A79A6D0.9E143DAE@the-pentagon.com> Organization: They Might Be Giants, Unofficially http://www.tmbg.org Subject: TMBG: Re: 01/30 SLC show thoughts He was making fun of pirates, I'm sure. At the Rochester show in November, he was talking about how you could get the new songs off the "thing", and that they were brand new but already all over Napster (which wasn't actually true at the time). -scratch Chris Nuccitelli wrote: > > Well, if no one else is going to mention it, I'll share a couple of my > scattered thoughts on the SLC show a couple nights ago.
