I think this is very sad. Oh, it's true enough I know, but it's definitely a shame. I don't know if those "Letters from J&J" are still up on the site, but Linnell's piece on the House of Wax he visited in New Orleans still throws me into fits of laughter. And the short article he wrote for an old newsletter about his battle to claim all three seats on the plane was very well written. Whereas Flansy's TMBG UnLtd e-mails rarely rise above the level of "Hey yo, here we are in beautiful downtown Massachusetts ready to serve you up a steaming hot fifteen minutes of EXCLUSIVE MP3s! Linnell seems definately more intruiging - we all want to get inside his head. With Flansburgh, i think we all kinda feel like we know what's in his head, and most of the time we do, because he tells us. They compliment each other well, though, you have to admit. what one doesn't put out there, the other one will. >>And the short article he wrote for an old newsletter about his battle to claim all three seats on the plane was very well written.<< yeah, sadly, i still have those old newsletters. i loved reading Linnell's articles...he is indeed a funny man when he speaks... shannon This next song sort of dwells on a universal theme; its about falling in love, falling out of love, then finding that person and killing them. -John Flansburgh, of the song I'll Sink Manahattan _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Message-ID: <005401c15b1a$bf09eaa0$3a1410ac@avesta.com> From: "Bryce" Subject: Re: TMBG: 4 of 2 photo Date: Mon, 22 Oct 2001 12:58:16 -0400 Josh Axelrad : > For those of you who are weird like I am check this > out: > > http://www.forgotten-ny.com/STREET%20SCENES/street%20clocks/clocks.html > > Check out the third pic... the one on the right in the > second set of pics. I think thats actually 23rd st and > not 22nd st but yes the clock says 4 of 2 :) There is a clock that's actually at 5th & 22nd. It's not as big or pretty, it's actually one of four clocks on the southeast block of that intersection. It hangs from the side of a jewelry store I'm pretty sure, which fits better with the line "sticking out of the side of the building." However, if that means it's just coincidence that the above photo shows 1:56, that's weird. I actually made such a list recently, while discussing with a few people that instead of doing a Flood show on Halloween, they should do a Halloween set.... here's what we came up with (some aren't as creepy as others, and the list is surely far from complete): Become a Robot, Big Big Whoredom, Hell Hotel, Somebody's Body, Hide Away Folk Family, 32 Footsteps, Hotel Detective, Absolutely Bill's Mood, Cage & Aquarium, Where Your Eyes Don't Go, You'll Miss Me, Dead, Whistling in the Dark, Dig My Grave, My Evil Twin, Spider, Hall of Heads, Turn Around, Ondine, She Was a Hotel Detective, Why Must I Be Sad, Dirt Bike, A Self Called Nowhere, Meet James Ensor, Window, Stomp Box, Exquisite Dead Guy, Your Own Worst Enemy, Dr. Evil, Cyclops Rock, I've Got a Fang, Hopeless Bleak Despair, Older, Mink Car, She Thinks She's Edith Head, Working Undercover for the Man, Frankenstein From owner-tmbg-list@tmbg.org Mon Oct 22 22:53:34 2001 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by ussenterprise.ufp.org (8.11.1/8.11.1) id f9N2rYQ71240 for tmbg-list-outgoing; Mon, 22 Oct 2001 22:53:34 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from owner-tmbg-list@tmbg.org) Received: from hotmail.com (f145.law7.hotmail.com [216.33.237.145]) by ussenterprise.ufp.org (8.11.1/8.11.1) with ESMTP id f9N2rXN71229 for ; Mon, 22 Oct 2001 22:53:33 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from xornom@hotmail.com) Received: from mail pickup service by hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC; Mon, 22 Oct 2001 19:53:28 -0700 Received: from 63.38.207.166 by lw7fd.law7.hotmail.msn.com with HTTP; Tue, 23 Oct 2001 02:53:27 GMT X-Originating-IP: [63.38.207.166] From: "Nathan Mulac DeHoff" To: tmbg-list@tmbg.org Subject: Re: Re[2]: TMBG: TMBG Article from Pittsburgh Date: Tue, 23 Oct 2001 02:53:27 +0000 Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed Message-ID: X-OriginalArrivalTime: 23 Oct 2001 02:53:28.0153 (UTC) FILETIME=[E4381C90:01C15B6D] Sender: owner-tmbg-list@tmbg.org Precedence: bulk Reply-To: "Nathan Mulac DeHoff" Ryan Mooney: >Karin remarks perceptively: > > >Flansy has assumed the mantle of spokesman, > >because otherwise any interviews with TMBG would be extremely short. > >I think this is very sad. I'm sure that, if Linnell were to write Unlimited e-mails, they wouldn't be any more interesting than the ones from Flans. It's just that Flans does most of the public relations stuff, because he's better at it. But it's silly to compare promotional messages to things written for the purpose of entertainment (such as those letters). -- May the light shine upon thee, Nathan DinnerBell@tmbg.org http://www.geocities.com/fablesto/ _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp From owner-tmbg-list@tmbg.org Mon Oct 22 22:58:45 2001 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by ussenterprise.ufp.org (8.11.1/8.11.1) id f9N2wji71449 for tmbg-list-outgoing; Mon, 22 Oct 2001 22:58:45 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from owner-tmbg-list@tmbg.org) Received: from hotmail.com (f12.law7.hotmail.com [216.33.237.12]) by ussenterprise.ufp.org (8.11.1/8.11.1) with ESMTP id f9N2wiN71441 for ; Mon, 22 Oct 2001 22:58:45 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from xornom@hotmail.com) Received: from mail pickup service by hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC; Mon, 22 Oct 2001 19:58:39 -0700 Received: from 63.38.207.166 by lw7fd.law7.hotmail.msn.com with HTTP; Tue, 23 Oct 2001 02:58:39 GMT X-Originating-IP: [63.38.207.166] From: "Nathan Mulac DeHoff" To: tmbg-list@tmbg.org Subject: Re: TMBG: Halloween Tunes Date: Tue, 23 Oct 2001 02:58:39 +0000 Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed Message-ID: X-OriginalArrivalTime: 23 Oct 2001 02:58:39.0571 (UTC) FILETIME=[9DD6BA30:01C15B6E] Sender: owner-tmbg-list@tmbg.org Precedence: bulk Reply-To: "Nathan Mulac DeHoff" Lawrence Solomon: >"K.C." wrote: > > > > In years past there has been discussion of TMBG fans making mix tapes of > > spooky or creepy TMBG songs to listen to around Halloween.
