I was told at about 12.30 which seems kind of late to me especially in terms of getting home by public transport. So, in general, what time would you expect a TMBG concert to end and do they tend to sell out in advance. Dude, you just don't want it badly enough. ;) >>So, in general, what time would you expect a TMBG concert to end and do they tend to sell out in advance. At about 12:30. I'm not sure if the LI shows sell out, especially over the holidays. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Dec 2001 09:44:10 -0500 (EST) From: Matt James Subject: Re: TMBG: RE: RE: coming to NY Message-ID: I wouldn't expect the concert to sell out unless it was perhaps the night of the show. I think I've only been to one sold out show in Philly and that was when it was about to start. Looking at the ticketmaster page it says the show is 8:00 which probably means when the doors open. Opening band will probably come on between 9 and 10. I'm guessing TMBG will come on between 10 and 11 and probably finish by 12:30. Most TMBG shows end about 12:30 to 1 AM that I've been to, especially at clubs. Of course this could be in (relative) cowtown Long Island (compared to NYC) so it may not go so late. As for L.I. transportation, I don't know what their trains are like but I thought that the NYC subway ran virtually around the clock. If you could get a taxi to the subway in Queens you could most likely get back. Of course, watch out for late-night crazies riding around :) I noticed TMBG are playing at Bohager's in Baltimore on New Years Eve. I thought, Brilliant! great time to see them, I haven't seen them on NYE in ages. Then I found out that Bohager's is having their 10th Annual Bash, 2 stages with TMBG, Mighty Might Bosstones and 2 other bands, open bar, full food spread, black tie event with a free trip to the Bahamas for the winner that leaves at 12:05AM that night so you have to bring your packed bags to the show. Cost before ticketmaster fees, $115-175 per person! I think we're gonna go ahead with our own New Years party after all. Hell, this isn't even a dedicated TMBG show, they're sharing with 3 other bands. Why couldn't they just do their own show at the normal $20 price and we could all have such a better time? Oh well. Maybe they're making tons of money off this show. It's just too bad that it's up the road in B'more. * ----------------------------------------------------------------------- On Thu, 13 Dec 2001, Richard Hilton wrote: > I've been looking at the webite about this gig and even phoned the venue up (from the UK) to find out what time it might end. Long Island Railroad is closely connected enough to the whole NY Transit system that is also runs around the clock. Especially at 12:30 - 1:00ish on a Saturday night. Worst case scenario, you'd have to take a taxi a couple miles to the nearest LIRR station (Hicksville, I would guess) and wait maybe 40 minutes tops for a train. A quick peek at the schedule says that there are trains out of Hicksville at 12:50, 1:19, and 2:05 on Sat nights. Takes about 40-50 minutes to Penn, depending on whether it's an express or not. Here's the LIRR site: http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/lirr/ Richard, if you can hit 3 shows in 3 nights in 3 different parts of England, a quick jaunt into the hinterlands of suburban NY shouldn't be too daunting. The Vanderbilt is cool, too. Very Deco. I heard the sound system isn't the greatest, but the ambience is bitchin. Remember I live in London! 3 concerts in 3 cities in 3 days in England is easy when you're on your own but with three of us it has got to be right or I'm in the dog house! I have to say that I'm tempted just so I can say I've been to Hicksville NY on the train. Thanks for all the feedback. Much appreciated!
