I, too enjoyed their performance, but my friend bought their C.D., and it's not very good (in my opinion, anyway). On the C.D., they have a full band, while their live set was just acoustic. I think I prefer them acoustic. The C.D. also doesn't have alot of the humor that their live performance did. Oh, and, TMBG rocked Anaheim's ass! But is it just me, or did it seem like they played WAY too much stuff from the kids album? I mean, it was cool to hear some of the kids tunes (and hearing John Lee Supertaster live gave me a whole new appreciation for the song), but they should save most of them for the special kids shows. At the Anaheim show, they didn't even play anything from Lincoln or John Henry, and only one song from Factory Showroom and The Pink Album. That disappointed me a little, but the show was still awesome! - - - A L E X [Attachment omitted, unknown MIME type or encoding (text/html)] Alex: >Oh, and, TMBG rocked Anaheim's ass! But is it just me, or did it seem like >they played WAY too much stuff from the kids album? Well, it IS the No! tour, and that IS the album they're currently promoting. For pretty much any new album, they'll generally play a lot of songs from it. >At the Anaheim show, they didn't even play anything >from Lincoln or John Henry, and only one song from Factory Showroom and The >Pink Album. That's true for MOST recent shows, though. They used to play "Shoehorn With Teeth" at most shows, but they've pretty much given up on it, and now you'll have to settle for the occasional "Ana Ng" or "Lie Still Little Bottle" if you want Lincoln. John Henry is NEVER well-represented in TMBG shows. -- Be your own broom, Nathan DinnerBell@tmbg.org http://www.geocities.com/fablesto/ _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com From owner-tmbg-list@tmbg.org Mon Jul 29 14:52:43 2002 Received: (from majordom@localhost) by ussenterprise.ufp.org (8.11.1/8.11.1) id g6TIqhG29979 for tmbg-list-outgoing; Mon, 29 Jul 2002 14:52:43 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from owner-tmbg-list@tmbg.org) Received: from ussdefiant.ufp.org (ussdefiant.ufp.org [209.249.50.19]) by ussenterprise.ufp.org (8.11.1/8.11.1) with ESMTP id g6TIqgJ29974 for ; Mon, 29 Jul 2002 14:52:42 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from tabbook_1@msn.com) Received: from 61.132.88.50 ([61.131.47.2]) by ussdefiant.ufp.org (8.9.3/8.9.3) with SMTP id LAA24110 for ; Mon, 29 Jul 2002 11:52:39 -0700 (PDT) Message-Id: <200207291852.LAA24110@ussdefiant.ufp.org> Received: from 105.183.205.243 ([105.183.205.243]) by smtp-server1.cfl.rr.com with QMQP; Jul, 29 2002 2:36:16 PM +0600 Received: from [118.189.136.119] by smtp-server1.cfl.rr.com with NNFMP; Jul, 29 2002 1:42:13 PM +0600 Received: from anther.webhostingtalk.com ([88.58.121.118]) by da001d2020.lax-ca.osd.concentric.net with QMQP; Jul, 29 2002 12:35:11 PM +0300 Received: from unknown (201.187.168.97) by smtp-server1.cfl.rr.com with QMQP; Jul, 29 2002 11:42:53 AM -0100 From: "iweibook_1@msn.com" To: tmbg-digest@tmbg.org Cc: Subject: TMBG: Hello Internet Business Seekers nrcyj Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Date: Mon, 29 Jul 2002 14:52:20 -0400 X-Mailer: eGroups Message Poster Sender: owner-tmbg-list@tmbg.org Precedence: bulk Reply-To: "iweibook_1@msn.com"

The date: July 27th, 2002. The time: 9:00 pm. The event: My second They Might Be Giants concert. Hello, ladies and gents. Here comes my albeit short review, and a complete setlist from last night's show. Let us begin at the beginning, shall we? My wife and I walked into the House of Blues, after having quite a time figuring out exactly how to get there, and immediately went for the floor area. It was really crowded, though, and rather than get squished, we decided to check out the balcony area. How fortuitous, too, as there were seats up there with a PERFECT view of the whole stage. Granted, they were in the VIP area, but no one seemed to notice as we skipped over the dividing chain, and headed over to the strategically placed stools. Ok, so now we're seated, and waiting for the show to start. At 9:00, the opening act comes out. Common Rotation is they're name, and they were really very good. :) Amusing, and they knew how to play the crowd, too. They covered Hey, Mr. DJ - that was awesome. They played for a good half hour or so, and I enjoyed every minute of it. Half an hour later, the zero time cometh. Out came our full house of Dans and Johns. What follows is the setlist: Clap Your Hands (complete with confetti cannons) Bed Bed Bed (I'd never heard this one before - man, I need to get No!) Fingertips (This song just plain rocks live. Very enjoyable to watch them switch back and forth from song to song.) In The Middle (Every time he sang 'the light turns green', the house lights would turn this blaringly green hue - it was funny.) At this point, Linnell got off the keyboard, and picked up his sax. At the same time, Weinkauf's guitar was geared up to sound like a saxophone, and Flans introduced the Real Sax and its arch nemesis the Fake Sax. Back and forth they went as an intro to... She's Actual Size (This had ye olde dial-a-drum-solo thing in there - I think it went up to 14. Flansburgh sang the last part of the song really soft and on his knees.) I Palindrome I (I'd forgotten how much I absolutely loved this song...) On the Drag Drink (Several people up on the balcony treated this like a classic drinking song, waving their drinks back and forth.) Particle Man John Lee Supertaster (F***ING ROCKS LIVE! Ahem...) Minimum Wage Boss of Me Man It's So Loud In Here Spin the Dial (Flasburgh was having a hard time with this one, and I feel for him. He went through three radio stations in a row that were in Spanish, then got some French...thing. He didn't have much to sing, but the rest of the band was playing right along. Eventually, they hit Billy Idol's "White Wedding", and Flans didn't immediately recognize it. Afterward, someone told him, and he said, "That was White Wedding? Shit, I know that song..." so they played a bit of it.) Older (During the break in this song, they went ahead and played through White Wedding again. :) Very cool.) The Guitar (They all kind of freaked out during this song, and for a while it just sounded like pounding on instruments. Then there was a bass solo, then a guitar one.) Robot Parade (The nice loud version, along with the "electric brains" verse.) Dr. Worm Four of Two Cycops Rock Why Does the Sun Shine? No! ** Encore 1 ** Violin (This song rocks live, too - I have no idea how they managed to keep a straight face on this one. Kudos to Linnell.) Birdhouse In Your Soul (! - Nuff said.) ** Encore 2 ** Istanbul How Can I Sing Like a Girl All in all, a wonderful show. They seemed very energetic, and they were obviously enjoying themselves. :) Now for the long wait 'til they come back... Signed, Nicholas Wolf TMBG Ambassador to the State of New Mexico - even though I don't live there anymore... ------------------------------ End of tmbg-list Digest #55-28 ******************************
