This song has a fairly simple sentiment, that everthing is wrong. It is unclear what the cause of disaster has been, but John goes into detail describing just how bad it is.

The TMBG FAQ has the following information on The Long Long Trailer:

The Long Long Trailer is a film starring Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. They take a trip towing their house trailer behind them. The dishes get broken. The car keeps driving. Nobody stops to save her (because Desi can't hear her, she's in the trailer).

Other than this reference, most of the language is pretty easy to decipher, though language tricks are abundant. Some of the better ones: The phrase "And now the song is over now" appears smack dab in the middle of the song. "Silent noise," an oxymoron. Other oxymorons- The numerical progression from "four" to "five," despite unrelated concepts in the lines, "Every four is waltz again," as a waltz is in three, not four and "float upstream," impossible since currents move downstream.
