The simple explanation of the song is that a very strange race of aliens invading the Earth. The first verse indicates that UFO's are on their way, and that at least one alien has already infiltrated to the Earth. The second stanza asks for people to go and fight the alien menace. There is little hope for these volunteers; they will be killed. The rest of the song narrates the bravery of one man who will go and meet the aliens, sacrificing himself and saving the world. Apparently, all that is needed is for him to be the love slave of the aliens' leader. It is worthy to note that they come from Venus, the planet named for the goddess of love.
Another theory has it that this song is an excuse offered by one man to his wife for cheating on her. He claims that he is doing it for science. The "I will die" parts are perhaps his fears at being discovered by his wife.
Finally, some think that the song (especially the female chorus) sounds like music from "Hair," and that it would fit in well as a lampoon of space experiments by the government.
