This is one of the more straightforward songs of Theirs. The singer is lamenting the loss of his wife (his lucky ball and chain). The "confidentially" sections add a bit of humor, as the singer notes that it really wasn't as great as he remembers it, but he longs for the days of his marriage nonetheless. One possible lyrical reference is in the "There goes the bride" section. Aside from the obvious reference to the wedding march, this section is similar to the Darlene Love song "(Today I Met) The Boy I'm Gonna Marry" which is about the beginning of a relationship. Specifically, this song contains the lyrics "Here comes the bride when he walked through the door."
