Quoth "Blackhawk" <BOAR_110@access.ohio.gov>:

I believe a saphire bullet of pure love is a bullet used by a manically depressed person who decides to kill themself and rid the world of their presence as a sign of love.

Quoth Matthew Meyer <S1082853@cedarnet.cedarville.edu>:

It's already been well stated that Sapphire Bullets Of Pure Love is not a Meat Puppets song, but I thought I should clear up its origin. Sapphire Bullets Of Pure Love is the title of a song by Mahavishnu Orchestra. I haven't heard it, but it's :35 seconds long and presumably instrumental. It's probably unrelated to the TMBG song, except, of course, for the title. Mahavishnu Orchestra is a jazz-rock fusion group from the late 60's and early 70's led by guitar legend John McLaughlin.

Quoth Anthony <QLBF60A@prodigy.com>:

I always thought this was a song about Mark David Chapman, the man who shot John Lennon. Think about it: "Bullets thru the atmosphere/here they come/John, I've been bad and they're coming after me/ I've done someone wrong and I fear that it was me" The "Sapphire Bullets of Ture Love" seems to be linked to the fact that Chapman considered himself to be the world's biggest Lennon fan, yet thought it would be a groovy idea to shoot his idol. That's what I thought, anyway.

Quoth Dan Hurd <dbhurd@tir.com>:

I've always thought the the sapphire bullets were tears of love. I think the song is about someons who was jealous and killed his one love then cries over what he'd done.

Quoth J. Scurran <chaensaw@primenet.com>:

Leave us not forget the possible sexual overtones of this song. I shant elaborate heavily, but let me just say that it could deal with the singer having slept with someone he shouldn't have slept with; the chorus referring directly and graphically to the actual sex act. I may be way off but one cannot ignore this possibility; I think Freud would have sided with me. ;)
