Quoth Stephanie Sharer <ssharer@erols.com>:

This song is about a guy who is high on life. It sounds like a happy go lucky broadway song or a cute little Sesame Street song. He is aware of all the bad stuff going on around him (atom bombs) but you still get the picture in the beginning of the song of a cute little boy getting up out of bed and yawning as if there was nothing wrong with the world. Such lyrics as "we've got a world that's great" and "ive got a world thats fine" really stress this. Also, he says "what's the hassle ill buy the castle, we can live like kings if we're together forever.." thus implying that nothing is wrong and if there is he will fix it and everything will be alright as long as he and his girlfriend(?) are together. yaaaay.

Quoth Paul Swanson <pswanson@uiuc.edu>:

obviously "we've got a world that swings" is a love song, only (i believe) the Johns' second straight-faced love song (both of which were written by other performers, interestingly enough). but with images of waking up in the morning with "still the taste of wine", "don't want to lose that bell that rings", "buying the castle", it's a song about the excitement of being alive the day after a couple's wedding.
