The "Window: is a television. Jules Verne was famous for all the books he wrote and all the inventions he concepted. Ideas such as the Nuclear submarine in 20k Leagues Under the Sea and a WINDOW (hint, hint) that could see all around the world, the television. Catch Me Driftwood???? Arrrrgh! Har! Har! Har!

Quoth Douglas Alexander <dalexand@erols.com>:

This song is about trying to match up with society's concept of physical perfection.

Look at all the people in the window
I'm checking out the people in the window

Looking at mannequins (I know that's spelled wrong) in a storefront window, who, of course, have perfect bodies because they were built that way.

It was a catalouge with many women, men
a window

A clothing catalouge showing smiling, beautiful people. Just like the window.

I was uncomfortable, now I'm uncomfortable

Uncomfortable about his physical appearence.

The trouble I encountered when I thought it was
it was a window

He saw all these perfect people and wanted to be like them. So he tried using drugs, or dieting, or steroids, or something. He "thought it (physical perfection) was..." a possibility, but after encountering a lot of trouble and messing up his body he found out it was only an image, like the fake people in the "window".

Quoth PaRtIcLe mAn <particalman1@juno.com>:

The man is a first-time murderer, looking out a window on potential victims...

"Look at all the people in the window, I'm checkin out the people in the window"

He's looking out of the window, searching for potential victims.

"I was uncomfertable, now I'm uncomfertable"

It's his first time, he's still jittery.

"The trouble I encountered when I when I though it was, it was a window"

"It was a catalog of many women, men, the window...window...window"

The man sees that the window, for a murderer, is a catalog of victims.

I was visiting the National Cathedral in DC recently (it's cool. Go there). As I looked at all the huge stained glass windows, I found myself humming this song. Then an idea hit me:

Look at all the people in the window
I'm checking out the people in the window

The narrator is, just like me, wandering around some huge medieval church and looking at all the stained glass. Most of this kind of window show some sort of bible scene with saints or disciples or whatever. Thus, they are checking out the people depicted in the windows.

I was uncomfortable
Now I'm uncomfortable

Those big cathedrals can be pretty intimidating.

It was a catalog
Of many women, men
the window

A good catalogue of the men and women in the windows would be the Bible. Or else, the window is a catalogue of the peope in the Bible. You choose.

Well, there you go. Probably not what John had in mind, but it works.
