Is that a They Might Be Giants shirt?" and then he gave me a hug. :) Brooklyn's Ambassadors of Love, indeed. :) Ordinarily I wouldn't run around hugging strangers, but it was obvious that he was a fellow spastic TMBG freak, so I knew he was okay. TMBG fans are generally good people. :) A question for any Coloradans on the list -- have They been known to ever stop in Denver at all? Knowing how they generally avoid the western two-thirds of the country, I'm guessing the answer is no, but I thought I'd just check. I'm most likely going to be moving to Ft. Collins this summer -- I'm starting grad school at Colorado State -- so I was just wondering... An off-topic side note: watching Sabado Gigante is really fun, especially when you don't know very much Spanish and you're a little bit tipsy. :) Does anybody else get this show on their Spanish channel? Are there perhaps any fluent Spanish speakers who can explain its humor to me? Right now the audience is singing a song about Payless Shoe Source. Am I just not drunk enough to get it? A favorite of mine was the "Pearl" shirt. One day I was sitting behind the desk of the library where I worked at the time. An old man was walking by, and he gave me a squinty eyed look. He came up to me and said "What does that shirt say?... They... They Might be... Ha ha haa!" He laughed a little and walked away. One of my pretty good friends (the one who got me on TMBG) told me that the local "alternative" station, 105.7 The Point, was telling rumors in the music scene and spilled that TMBG are coming to St. Louis, to the American Theatre more specifically, this summer. I wrote an email to the station yesterday inquiring about this rumor, because if he was lying to a rise in me I will beat him severely. Well, just thought I'd share the good news, I'll know if it happens that I'll be there. Thanks Chris chrisl@tmbg.org "Hey monkey, what's life without an occasional surprise?" -Adam F. The reason I'm posting about this is to tell everyone what happened when I tried to request a song by Them. A friend of mine and I (who is also a huge fan) wanted to see if we could get a radio station around here to play any TMBG song. So, I call the station and make the request and to my dismay find out that the station doesn't have anything by Them. The good part about it though was that the DJ did know who I was talking about. Well, that's it for this post. Ciao everyone. Jonnie P.S. Subject: TMBG: 2 year anniversary of... Message-ID: Etown - that's right, it was two years ago today that TMBG performed at Elizabethtown College in Etown, Pennsylvania. If you were there, I assume you know why this show is worth remembering, and I'll always fondly recall the experience of being there and of meeting the people that I met. Of course, just about every day of the year is a TMBG concert anniversary of some sort (which is great - THANK YOU TMBG for touring so much) but even so, I can't seem to ignore the Etown anniversary. Hey howdy to all my friends who were there. (cuz the show we were at was the second to last show of the FS tour) anywas, i still have that number, i've just never bothered to call it... anyways, i'm hoping that the St. Louis rumor is true (you're the second person i've come across that has heard it)... that means #1 they're touring this summer #2 they're close enough to my humble home that there's hope they may just happen to stop here, and if not, i can always drive to St. louis)... it's not even a full days drive away :) take it easy, JOrdaN http://www2.netcom.com/~arnot/joda/bootlegs.html ::::The Official Gum Bubble:::: _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. It's a few guys making up a net band called "God Ate My Homework." They kick royal ass for three reasons: 1. They write awesome songs such as "Secret Asian Man" (a song about some guy who lives in front of his PC on the 'Net), "Pirate This Song" (obvious), and the currently-in-progress "I Saw Bill Gates On IRC." 2. They are totally for freedom of music on the 'Net. They distribute all their songs and info for FREE at http://www.gamh.home.ml.org . 3. They are fans of TMBG. Really! An excerpt from their page: MUSICIANS FOR FREEDOM OF MUSIC: An organization of artists who don't believe that forcing people to pay for their music is the best way to make money or win fans. Support from small bands (like GAMH) is nice, but MFM would really need to include well-known artists like Pearl Jam, They Might Be Giants, and Snoop Doggy Dogg. The bands who free their music get the right to put the MFM logo on their CD's. And of course, they get increased publicity. In the words of Snoop Dog, "there ain't no such thing as overexposure." Note: I do plan on emailing TMBG about this previous mark. ;) Visit the page! I found a great one today: "Unusual, intelligent, and no small amount of fun, They Might Be Giants may be the perfect wedding band for the hyperintelligent practical joker set, but regular folks seem to like it, too." So is that what we are? The "hyperintelligent practical joker set"? :) I also found an article about Them in _The Nation_ from '88. (I was researching and got really sidetracked, OK?) Why is it that some people assume all their stuff is parody? This guy *really* reaches for this stuff! Listen to this: "Thus their brilliantly executed parodies: of Elvis Costello's paranoid Hitchcockian visions as in '(She Was A) Hotel Detective'; of the Who's 1960s-youth-culture banalities ('Hope That I Get Old Before I Die'); of the pseudo-Rimbaudian babble that Bob Dylan and his ilk all too often pass off as poetry ('Absolutely Bill's Mood'); of that tired country and rock staple, the road song ('Toddler Hiway'); and on and on." eh? is this guy serious? And then I also found a couple of great Flans quotes from another article I came across that I now can't seem to find (but that I'm sure I can find if anybody really really really wants it): "It's kind of like our pet. We feed it every month with new songs and then leave it alone. Actually, it's like a dead pet, but we feed it anyway." -- Flans, on Dial-A-Song "If you want to find out if people think you are fat, then check out the Internet, because it's all in there." -- Flans, on....well, freaks like us, I guess. :) --Tara -- Tara Weber 00085244@bigred.unl.edu http://members.tripod.com/~TaraW "We want everybody to have a good time, but we're not on a rock hero trip." --John Flansburgh "It's more of a rock gyro trip." --John Linnell ****MSTie #74191, TMBGer #38978**** ------------------------------ Message-Id: <3.0.1.32.19980412235201.006884c0@pop.indy.net> Date: Sun, 12 Apr 1998 23:52:01 -0400 From: rachel Subject: Re: TMBG: Columbus Show!!!
