But it's clumsy to have to say "They Might Be Giants--I mean the album, not the band." So, it's simpler to say Pink or The Pink Album. Puts TMBG on the level of the Beatles, too, with their White album. If you want to get really anal about it (as I always do) you could call it Eponymous. **************************************************************** Jonathan Chaffer Rabidchild on RealmsMud jonathan.chaffer@cmich.edu Telnet realms.dorsai.org 1501 On a.m.tmbg, the name "Big Blue Dog Album" seems to be used the most......of course, I am a trifle biased. - Free the expo '67 ------------------------------ From: Idiotnot@aol.com Date: Sat, 16 Sep 1995 20:11:21 -0400 Subject: Re: big blue album? Wow! Majordomo sent me a message while I was sitting here at my computer, so I thought it'd be a nice chance to try to be the first person ever to send a message to the brand new list. Simple pleasures. To reply to the person who had asked how long it takes to get TMBG stuff in the mail, I'd have to say that I think it varies. I sent off for a bunch o CDs at Christmas, which I would think would be their busy time of the year. I got my stuff in two and 1/2 weeks. Some folks have said that they had to wait months for theirs, so I guess you can never be sure. Five's right around the corner. I bet we all thank Jonathan Chaffer for his work, his volunteer efforts and all. Most of us didn't try. We leeched. Suck suck. BUT: Cabbage--er, lettuce start a discussion. "SenSurround." What a song. The lyrics are creative, quite bizarre. I had this dream, we'll say, about John Linnell, and he was talking to me about his zygote days, how he just happened to stumble across this cute egg in the womb of his mother, whom he couldn't resist. (Er, bad modifier placement, unless you STILL insist Linnell has an Oedipus Complex. 'Nother story.) Linnell incubated for a while, about nine months, he, we'll say, told me, and he said as a baby-pocket he wanted to see _Jaws_. He'd kick and baby-yell in his momma's pouch, wanting to hear the menacing theme music and the deep bass from the woofers covered in wood. He did. He really, we'll say, did. But the whole, we'll say, real dream I had brought me, amazingly, to thinking. Ya know, If a baby in the womb were incubated with the sounds of TMBG, how would the baby turn out? Male or female? Rowdy or calm? Bearded or clean-shaven? Creative or psychotic? Etc.? Perhaps you've heard the studies about how music affects the (alive) unborn baby. Classical music is thought to make a cryless baby, in poetic terms. What would Skid Row do to a baby? Or TMBG? How many Digest subscribers are pregnant? I'm quite curious. I know pregnant people are out there, but I never see them. I would think I would have a 9 in 12 chance in seeing pregnant prancers, yet whenever I do see them--rarely--they are always a sight. Any pregnant ones fans of TMBG? And, in continuation of my previous post, how would a baby be affected by aural stimulation in the womb with the sounds of Linnell and Flansburgh? Or maybe they are touring this fall for the hell of it possibly? They seemed to do a lot of that last year and the beginning of this year! Also, I had heard that if you can't find any rarer stuff anywhere else, you can always go to Tower Records and they usally have singles and whatnot. Well I went into Trump Towers in Manhattan a few weeks ago and not only did they not have any singles they didn't even have all of the albums that I can get at my local record store! Is that a fluke or something? I would think NYC would be the first place you could get stuff like that.
