Date: Sun, 29 Oct 1995 10:54:11 -0500 (EST) Hey folks. I was, as every other Sunday morning finds me, listening to John Henry while folding laundry. (Don't ask why this has become ritual.) Anyway, this particular Sunday I was in a strangely analytical mood... In "Sleeping in the Flowers," John has a crush on a "copy-shop girl." I recalled "Snowball in Hell," in which we're told about his "fantasy ... in a xerox shop." Is there a theme here? Does anyone know of other songs alluding to xerographic reproduction? Am I strange to be think- ing about this? (If I am strange, you are too for responding.) I have only heard a bit from the first year, (John Linnelle's State Songs and some of the Brian Dewain stuff). Anyway, my friend, Johanna sent me copies of those. I had only asked her for the State songs, but she threw in the Brian Dewain stuff because she thought I'd like it. I didn't like it. But, let me say that the State Songs are incredible. As a matter of fact, South Carolina is THE best song I have ever heard. Linnelle shows his musical genius on that song. He starts the song with five or six totally different melodies, and by the time the song ends, the melodies merge into one terrific harmony. 'Tis special! Anyway, I got to wondering the same thing as you did. Were Hello CDs worth it? So last weekend, I ordered them. When I get them in the mail, I'll post a review to the digest.
