The only picture that went along with it (at least on the online version)
was a John Henry-era promotional picture. :-(

in reply to the reply about my "dead alive" comment (microsoft express sucks
when it comes to quoting things)......

i am so NOT prejudice againt the undead....
here's how this all started....

in high school my pal hilary and i used to be obsessed with the undead, and
used to rent any and all zombie movies to cheer them on. case in point,
House 2 with the lovable undead grandpa. we used to tease our friends (most
of whom were involved in D&D games) about how cool the undead were and how
we wanted to adopt some zombies and train them to interact peacefully with
humans. we used to write surveys about what "would you do if......(blah,
blah) UNDEAD (blah, blah)" scenarios. it was a very fun time, and i brought
it up to see if any of my old chums were somewhere on this list, since we
have been TMBG fans for ages.

in tmbg related news, i played the planet of the apes fetish for a friend
who responded enthustiastically, "oh my god, thats Fucking awesome! its like
15 different styles of music at once!!!!" just something to look foreward
to on the severe tire release day! --kathy(all my posts seem to generate
hostle replies.....how controversal!)

I really thought STD would suck...I really, really did. However, now I'm
completely blown away. It's much, much better than I thought it would be -
I guess that's what I get for doubting TMBG. :-) Even the tracks from
Live!! NYC sound very, very different...I guess the studio overdubs really
were worth it. :-) All the tracks are great, or at least they appear to
be on the first listen. :-)

If you're trying to convert someone to TMBG-ism, this seems like the
perfect way.

one in Details about what John takes when he gets a cold, maybe the
magazine IS worth getting.

okay so i had a lil adventure buying this album... needless to say it
involved the fact that all cars at my residence were gone by the time i
woke up so i ended up rollerblading a total of 8.5 miles and getting hit
by one car. but, it's worth it! :)

>.I guess the studio overdubs
>really
>were worth it. :-)

i can't agree with you there... i mean... they filtered out 90% of the
audience. Why put out a live album if you're not gonna include the
audience? (i realize that the MN shows aren't gonna have much of an
audience but the rest should... save ensor).

GOOD THINGS:
#1 i dig spider... i've never heard it sound so good...
#2 I'm glad they used that version of TGL although it would have been
funny if they did use the version with the old members names :)
#3 that's prolly the best i'd ever heard first kiss too... anyone know
what show that was from?
#4 the intro for she's actual size... has anyone been to a show where
they did that? odd.
#5 the I(NC) intro rocked... jim rocks.
#6 of all the POTA tracks... escape kicks.
more to come... give me a few more listens. :)

COMPLAINTS:
#1 they say they put the songs that "evolved" from their album version to
the live show on this album. why then, did they put a quick version of
ana ng on there?
#2 why do they tease us at the end of the album and cut Dig My Grave?!
grr... they play the whole intro to the song why not finish what they
started!
#3 does anyone else out there like Dr. Worm better *without* horns?
#4 why not save First Kiss for the next album and make it a single?
#5 about me is just funktified.
more to come... give me a few more listens

RANDOM QUESTIONS FOR YOU GUYS:
#1 what do you think of the art in the liner notes?
#2 who's zak alford?
#3 what do you guys think of diana harold and her vibraphone playing? i
didn't like it all when i first heard this on the bootleg of that show
(what was it 12/18/97?) anyways... i kinda dig it now :)

Well here's my 2 cents worth. I got my copy at 9:00am this morning as the
guy behind the counter un-boxed it. Strawberry's in West Hartford, CT got
only 2 copies. I have listened to it all day and am very glad that the Johns
are promoting the fact that the band has horn players. I have always felt
that their music sounds best with live horns and perhaps with a little luck
and some success with this album and new label they will be able to afford
to take the horns on the road with them. The whole thing sounds outstanding.

Hey Everyone,

I am usually lurking around here, but I decided to post with my good news.
Yesterday, I called 106.3 and asked for Dr. Worm and they played it. She even
said that she thinks it is great!! I was soooo happy and this morning I got
STD. :) I am listening to it again--I love it! Everyone should go out and get
it. The only bad part was that there weren't any photos :( I was hoping to see
some. I also picked up the Marcy Playground CD and that is pretty good too. To
top it all off, I also got my package from the Info Club a couple of days
ago-- It ONLY took about a month!! :) I love those pencils! Oh... and if I am
able to get a scanner I am hoping to make a page and put my photos from when
They played at the F.U.S.E. convention in AC. ( That was my first show and it
was great!! :) )
I can't wait for the singles and the new TMBG Video Bootleg!!

I'm frustrated, it's so hard to find a TMBG CD that includes pictures of
their faces. Well I guess Mono Puff is better about that sorta thing.
At the same time I appreciate them trying to be mutant and humble by the
act. Usually every music CD I've ever purchased has photographs of the
musician plastered all over it. The only way I've ever gotten pics of
the Johns were through Then (The Earlier Years), magazines (1 smaller
than my thumb nail), promotional postcards, posters (1 factrory
showroom), and the internet. I don't have Misc T, does that include
pictures of them? I used to have Lincoln (untill my sisters boyfriend
stole it from me and never ever returned it *GRRRR... I'll never forgive
him* Well thank John for Then eh'.), and if my memory is flawless, it
did not include pictures of either John. Well the closeup of their
torsos is a start anyway. I'm still confused by the mess in the puddle,
it looks like a bookcase full of classic literature from some of the best
authors was dropped off the empire state building :P

Yes .. I believe Flans is screaming into the pickups on his guitar, a la
glamrock. That would explain the extremely distorted sound

Hey.

I also think the accordian version of Dr. Worm is better. The horns
aren't bad, but they dominate the song too much. I definetely hate the
Dig My Grave teaser, I was so pissed when the CD just cut out after the
intro. I do like S-E-X-X-Y with the horns, though. They dig an excellent
job of filling in the much-needed string parts, normally missing in a
live show. If only there was a horn version with Hal Craigin. (other than
the album version) Can't win 'em all, I suppose. STD isn't a bad album,
but it just seems to sterille to be a TMBG live show. It's missing
something without all the humorous anecdotes, or the crowd singing along.
Oh, well. I guess I'll just have to listen to my bootlegs.

Hey! Did anyone else pick up the new Liz Phair album? If so, what do you
think?

Drew

I regret to inform you all that I can't think of a distinctive TMBG quote
to put here. I'm new at this whole "list" thing.

Actually, It's John saying the line through one of the pick-ups on his
guitar. When distorted, some pick-ups pick up voice, and make it
distorted also. (example: the beginning of "Dead and Bloated" on the
first Stone Temple Pilots album.) So, you're both right.

Much Whinning to Follow....

So, I tried to be the "good fan", but I don't currently have a CD player, so
I didn't buy the new cd. Anyway, 3 people I know had already pre-ordered it
through CD NOW, so I figured I'd dub a copy on tape and buy the CD when I get
my CD player fixed, fair enough, right?  Well, nobody got their copies today;
way to go CD NOW. I thought no problem, I'll just track down the album and buy
a tape of it. I called six stores and got the same answer "Sorry, we don't
have anything by that band. Sure you've got the name right?" Well, I finally
found the album at the 7th store, however STD is not available on tape!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRR... So why not just buy the CD and copy it at someone else's
home? I'm too tired from work, and a little beyond frustrated right now to
make the effort....

Ya know, I had the same problem from CD NOW with It's Fun To Steal and Factory
Showroom. I give up! No more CD NOW, no more info club. What is this? A
conspiracy?

"Hey John, let's see how difficult we can make it for our fans, and WOULD BE
fans, to get our albums and merchandise"

Sorry to rant on, I now return you to your regularly scheduled listening of
STD, which I still don't have...
