I'm sure that many people would consider analyzing the lyrics in any way
at all to be "nerdy."

I seem to have a problem with my real player. Everytime I click on a real
audio file, I get a message that says it couldn't open it. And when I try
to save it to pen it off line it says "trying to connect" for a few
minutes, and then that it couldn't connect. Does anyone know what to do?
Thanks.

Derek

in Real Audio. I'm listening to it right now and it is suepoib!

I don't know how many people on this list agree with me, but I just want
to go on record as saying that I don't like to read the interpretations
of the songs very often. Like the Johns say, I believe most of their
songs have more than one way to interpret it, and, well, I just like to
keep my mind open to all the possibilities. This is not intended as an
offense or anything to the people who do submit their interpretations to
tmbg.org, I just don't read them very often.

Ditto. I like to make my own interpretations, such as how I think that "Don't
Let's Start" is about a girl taking a guy to an action movie. Their songs are
like poems that you can't quite understand ... even if you think you know what
the meaning is, when you think about it another way, it seems different. Why
then, do we even think we NEED a meaning? They might have just been using
whatever words that came to Them at a certain time. Except for that verse in
"Hotel Decective" ("that's where I want to know you") which bugs me. It could
just all be a secret agent thing.

I agree that the lyrics from those albums, especially Lincoln, are sheer
genius, and that it has been some time since we have seen anything
remotely comparable from them. At the same time, what we are seeing is
a much better musical quality. The full band has helped that and their
shows are a lot looser, which I can appreciate. I'd like to see them
fuse the two in the future, and I think that that may happen. Maybe
they just need more drugs :)

If you believe 'most of their songs have more than one way to interpret
it', why aren't you eager to check out all the different interpretations
of the song rather than avoiding all of them?

Every interpretation of a song isn't an opportunity to define the song,
it's a chance to make up cool shit. I for one think that Famous
American Polka, my new favorite TMBG song, is about Archie Bunker
watching Entertainment Tonight.
