I went just recently and they had many songs there. I was finally able to hear "CPICN", as well as "Finished With Lies" and a couple others, including "Unforgotten." That's probably one of my least favorite songs ("Unforgotten," that is") by TMBG now, but I *love* "CPICN" and "Finished With Lies" is just as good if not better, in my opinion. I heard a version of "Finished with Lies," plus "Older" and "Working Undercover for the Man" which I had never heard (good songs!), on NPR's State of the Nation at www.npr.org (I think that's the address). A CD that Giantheads might enjoy: Tom Ze's "Fabrication Defect." It's a Brazilian artist known as the "mad genius." His music is melodic and has lots of weird guitar patterns and instruments, including Rubber Balloon On Tooth (!!!). It's a great CD, look for it in your world music section of your nearest music store. (Rolling Stone gave it four stars, in case you care). I'm SURE I have more to say, but I'm just...out...now...tired... I'll probably say it later today. --Spencer, who, like so many things you can't understand, leaves your teeth chattering for more. ------------------------------ From: Matt James Message-Id: <199901111619.LAA08134@fellspt.charm.net> Subject: TMBG: TMBG on GLR Date: Mon, 11 Jan 1999 11:19:17 -0500 (EST) Hello, This is directed to any Londoners on the list. Whilst I was over in England I heard on GLR that TMBG would be stopping in their studios on the afternoon of either January 13 or 14 (I think, don't quote me on that). I was wondering if anyone had heard of that and if they had or if they're able to get it to try and tape the broadcast of it. I think it might be one of those lunch-time type of shows and it was definitely on a weekday. This, I assume, is a leadup interview for them appearing at the Garage in Islington on Jan 18 & 23. If anyone does tape it I'd be interested in getting a copy. Thanks! I'd like to purchase Unsupervised. I personally love reading the interps on www.tmbg.org. It gives me interesting ideas, but I love the Johns' own reasons. For example, Don't let's start "is a song about not let's starting." (--John Linnell) I love the lyrics on "the Bells are Ringing" and "Spiraling Shape" and "Till My Head Falls Off"... I don't think their lyrical ability is changing for the worst. It's changed a bit (no more "Chess Piece Face," "Rabid Child," "Stand On Your Own Head" type lyrics), but they're just as good in a different way. --Spencer, who may or may not have been a roadie for the Replacements (you know the rumor...) ------------------------------ From: rhilton@bitc.org.uk Message-Id: Date: Mon, 11 Jan 1999 18:49:40 +0000 Subject: TMBG: TMBG on GLR -Reply OK I've had a quick chat with the nice people of Cooking Vinyl who seemed to think the GLR piece will be pre-recorded and then they will then find out the date it will be broadcast. However it could be that GLR have already set a date. Other possibilities mentioned by Cooking Vinyl were GMTV (the popular morning TV show so I don't think so) and The Jack Dockerty Show (a late evening 'youth' chat show so an obvious and good choice).
