I loved Garry Shandling. Especially the one where he flies somewhere in his balsa wood plane and the flight attendant offers him headphones and he goes "Headphones? I own the whole plane!" Oh, I thought the ping pong episode was the greatest ever! I loved The Paddle (tm) that he carved from the wood of The Tree on his farm in Iowa. And how he played on his father's table in the middle of the corn fields and won the national ping pong championships only to be shot in hand the by his would-be lover and unable to play again for 17 years. Only The Paddle was destroyed so the kid on the show created The Paddle 2. He then went on to play the resident champ, the chinese guy, who Gary ended up knocking a hole through his paddle. Then he quipped, "All I have to do is hit the ball through that little hole", little did he know he had a back up paddle. Boy, do I remember that episode all too well. It was hilarious! I also liked how he drove around the studio/apartment building well before Conan O'Brien ever started doing that on his show. -Matt ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Feb 1999 13:52:09 -0600 From: Bob Scott Message-ID: <36C9CC68.60D9AE38@tmbg.org> Organization: They Might Be Giants, Unofficially http://www.tmbg.org Subject: Re: NON-TMBG: Porn porn porn and 120 Minutes Nathan Mulac DeHoff wrote: > The Li'l Depressed Boy wrote: > >>"This is the Tom Green Show, it's not the Green Tom Show, this is my > >>favorite show, because it is my show, it's the Tom Green Show." > >> -The Tom Green Show theme > >>song > > > >Not having seen this show or anything, but I thought I'd like to > >mention > >that the theme song here sounds like a blatant rip off of the theme > >song to > >everyone's fav'rit TV show, The Gary Shandling show. > > I haven't seen either of those shows, but it seems to me that several > people could have easily come up with this sort of theme song > independently of one another (if that made any sense). Actually, I believe it was originally my theme song. Every time I walk into a room, I hear people singing "This is the Tom Green Show," (and so on). Kinda strange, they've been doing it for years no matter how much I object and tell them my name isn't Tom. bobscott@tmbg.org AKA Bob "It also reminds me of Crow's 'Joey the Lemur' song for some reason" Scott ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Feb 1999 14:13:29 -0600 From: Bob Scott Message-ID: <36C9D169.96AF9D76@tmbg.org> Organization: They Might Be Giants, Unofficially http://www.tmbg.org Subject: TMBG: TMBG Dream (Read only if really bored) Ok, I've seen others post TMBG dreams around here, and I always laughed and scoffed, thinking such a thing could never happen to me. But what do ya know? Last night I had one of the least relevant TMBG dreams ever had! Neither John was in it, though much of it revolved around a TMBG song being on "A Bug's Life" soundtrack. I think I listened to 'Ant' too many times before I went to sleep last night :) Here's what I remember: Driving in my car, trusty Leffel in the passenger seat, a song comes on the radio. It is a TMBG song. For some reason, I know immediately that it is from A Bug's Life Soundtrack. So what do I do? Mike says that he has to help a friend deliver some packages. I then proceed to the house, though I have no idea where it is. Seconds later, we're there, and inside. The friend (I'll call him Charlie, since he had no name in the dream) has a cap from a bottle of pop which allows him to get a free copy of 'A Bug's life' Soundtrack. Unfortunately, upon closer inspection, the cap expired earlier in the month (it actually expired on Feb. 8th... Wonder if that's significant?). Then we go out and drive around delivering packages of who knows what. And thus concludes the dream. I have no idea what to make of it, and I've studied symbolism in dreams. Probably a combination of 'Ant' and the Disney discussion about THHGTTG here on the list drove me to have such an odd dream. It would at least explain the constant repetition of "A Bug's Life" in the dream. Or maybe I'm about to be crushed by something... Suppose I'd better look out. Until next time, stay awake at all costs! bobscott@tmbg.org AKA Bob "I once had to listen to an entire Everly Brothers CD when I was actually visiting a good friend which I had driven two hours to see and instead her mother answered the door and chose the music and... I'm >wondering if it's any good. Looks more like a novella than an actual > >novel. I read it, and was completely confused and upset by it. Confused because it made little sense, and upset cause that's the last that Zaphod is seen in the trilogy. The only answer I deduced from the short story was that Zaphod was to spend an eternity in a place he would rather not be in. IMO that is a horrrible fate for anybody with 2 or more heads, or any heads at all. I read it to my close friend who gave a rather different interp. He saw it as a sort of paradox, Zaphod meeting his true inner self, and experiencing a form of deletion, or something like that. Hmmmm, still negative. That short story and the books after were somewhhat tragic considering he's my favorite character. But the story is definitely worth reading, especially for the obsessed fan who wants to gather all info for the sake of elongating the genius plot. Oh yeah, and is there a big difference between the tv and >radio >editions? Yup, the TV series rather closely follows the trilogy *hyuk*. As for the radio series, as soon as the characters go aboard the black ship, the plot makes a drastic change, including a new planet, a new idea, and new characters, and of course tons of new fun. I don't think it's easy to get a hold of the old shows, but I got all 12 episodes from a friend, for free (how kind). If you can't get ahold of the tapes, get the unedited radio script, you can find it at your local library, or order it from a local bookstore. It includes behind the scenes material, and cut scenes, that are in fact extremely entertaining. I saw a huge transcript of the radio one years ago, but I >was >like "I own every book, why bother?". Question, what if the hitchhiker's group were somehow picked up by the MST3K cast. Would Marvin destroy the MST3K moon with lethally depessing air waves? Would he have a failed relationship with Gipsy when he discovers that Gipsy is really a man, and become further depressed by the predicament? Will Arthur discover how much he truly loves hamdingers? Will Zaphod invent a way to enlarge his ego. Will Ford and Crow make mischief and sabotage The Brain Guy, or go back in time to meet up with Joel in a wacky and highly entertaing episode? Back in 1993 shey played Flood for me. First I thought, this is interesting, than after a couple more times of listening, I was addicted. I've heard about this too, I read a little article thingy on the Vonnegut Web. Bruce Willis is playing Dwayne Hoover, and Kurt himself is supposed to play a cameo in the film (they said they didn't know if he would actually play his own part from the book). It said that Kurt had read the screenplay so far and said it was very funny. So maybe it won't be so bad after all... I know it's a bizarre book and it would be very difficult to put into film form, but we'll see. I just hope they do the springy ground scene. *Mike* ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Feb 1999 12:01:31 -0500 From: TDK Message-ID: <36C9A46A.5980726C@cybercomm.net> Organization: They Might Be Giants, Unofficially http://www.tmbg.org Subject: TMBG: I interview TMBG, you choose the questions!
