the record: It was four harmless posts, total, and all in all quite a bit
more platonic than you've made it out. Mostly, in fact, due to my
surprise at Kristina's outburst--and a joking reply the list could have
done without, but caused no harm just the same. And I hold absolutely no
love for the Reverend Kristina. :P

Ack. I meant, rather, that the origin of my existence in that thread was
due to Kristina's strange outburst. Not that the platonic nature of the

Sorry. Erm. Well--to fend off those who would have my head for posting

A few questions about STD:
I'm told the vocals for that version of "They Got Lost" were record in a
studio, and dubbed over the live performance. Is this verifiable? It
seems pretty real to me; although I'm of course no expert on such things.
In "Battle for the Planet of the Apes" it's been said that the crowd is
yelling "singe," the French word for ape. I can't tell what they're
saying; but it's true? I've often wondered, as I heard it more as
second-hand knowledge.
And finally--the album ends with the opening to "Dig My Grave?" As in
"This Ape's for You?" <confused> My ears are dull; I don't see it (or
.. hear it, haha).

promoting _Long Tall Weekend_, or it might be "just to pay the bills" (as

Has anyone else noticed a certain trend in songs that They cover? While
this certainly doesn't apply to ALL of Their covers, many of them seem to be
about delusion, which seems appropriate for a band with a name that
indirectly refers to Don Quixote. "New York City" is about someone thinking
that "everyone's your friend in New York City." That seems comparable to
thinking windmills are giants to me. Then there's the similarly-themed
"We've Got A World That Swings." The singer is aware that the world is a
pretty terrible place, but he's deluding himself into thinking that it's
good, because he's in love. "Maybe I Know" has a singer who isn't
recognizing the obvious unfaithfulness of his or her partner, once again due
to love. These are probably the three best examples. While trying to think
of other covers that fit this theme, I came up with the idea that "25
O'Clock" could be about someone deluding himself that 25 o'clock will
actually come. As far as I know, Andy Partridge (or Sir John Johns, if you
prefer) wasn't thinking about this when he wrote the song, but it's a
possible interpretation. Any other ideas? I'm sure that bringing songs
that TMBG wrote into it would produce many more examples, but it's
interesting that songs not even written by the band can still fit its themes
(assuming that TMBG has themes).

Nothing at all, because you own the copyright on it. Of course, depending on
how many you sold, there might some issues about running a business in your
home, but as far as selling your product, there's nothing wrong with it.

I don't think you have to ask, as long as you give credit to the original
artists. Of course, cub seemed to be fine with the cover, considering that
they opened for TMBG after the cover was made.

A bit, but the rhythm, instrumentation, and guitar solo are all
different. Having never heard "Dig My Grave" live (or not remembering,
if I did), I could very well be mistaken, I admit--but I never recognized
any similarities before having them pointed out to me.

to be illegal. Where legality is *not* concerned, you should make your own

On what grounds? What you're advocating isn't legal. What I'm advocating is,
because TMBG have specifically said it's ok to tape their shows, but they're
not going to go out of their way to allow it. In other words, if you get

Why is this list being consumed with flames, it's like Hell in here! You
can't sigh without someone questioning the very concept of sighing! What is
the point of flaming other than the struggle to be the implied "winner" of
the argument? And to use the sentence "you make me puke"? Tomatos make me
puke, and how many people do you think are making a mental note of that for
further reference? I very much doubt you absolutely needed to say that. As
for the other dude who makes the first dude puke, I'm not sure what the full
extent of the argument is, but if I have it right, the purpose of selling
their demos on the net is in the hopes that maybe they might fall into the
right hands and get them a good start in the music business, but I'm not
sure if I understand what the argument is. Anyway, I'm sure it wasn't

No, I didn't say that. I didn't say that just because it's legal/illegal it's
moral/immoral. And the converse also isn't necessarily true, because moral
issues *are* subjective, but legal ones are not. You can't argue that it's
legal to kill someone, but you can argue that your morals would allow it if it
were legal. Where there is no law governing a particular issue, you can do
whatever your personal morals dictate.
Besides, your example is totally flawed. As far as I know, with the exception
of property and money, Congress doesn't tell you anything you *must* do, only
what the government *must* do, and what we as citizens *can't* do. (The
Constitution tells the government what it can't do, pretty much)
For the most part, if it doesn't say you can't do something, then you can.

There are laws. When we break laws and are found out by law enforcement
officials, we are responsible for our actions. It's really quite simple. If you
think you're right, you get a lawyer, but if you're wrong, it probably won't
matter (unless your bootlegging has made you enough money to get a GOOD lawyer,

I bet something happened between the Space Ghost people and
TMBG. 'Cause something would've had to happen to cause that
