                         *** ADMINISTRIVIA ***

This notice is posted twice a month to tmbg-list and
tmbg-digest, as well as sent to all new users. Please read
it if you have questions about the list.

The TMBG mailing list is administered by Leo Bicknell <bicknell@ufp.org>.
It provides a forum for discussing They Might Be Giants and Their music.

1) Unsubscribing from the list

It is easy to unsubscribe from this mailing list. If you are subscribed to
the regular, or "bounce" list, send the command

        unsubscribe tmbg-list e-mail@address

in the body of a message to <majordomo@tmbg.org>.

To unsubscribe from the tmbg-digest digested version of the list, send the
command

        unsubscribe tmbg-digest e-mail@address

in the body of a message to <majordomo@tmbg.org>.

"e-mail@address" stands for the email address that is subscribed to the
list. If you are sending the command from the email account that is
subscribed, this part of the command is optional.

If you have problems, send mail to <tmbg-list-approval@tmbg.org>.

2) Subscribing to the list

Follow the instructions above for unsubscribing but
send the word 'subscribe' rather than unsubscribe. :-) Keep
in mind that tmbg-list will send you a copy of each message
as it's written, which may be a lot. tmbg-digest will send
you all the messages written in a day in the middle of the
night. See http://www.tmbg.org/mail-news/ for more information.

3) Sending messages to the list

To send a message to the list just mail it to
tmbg-list@tmbg.org and it will get sent out to everyone.
Please don't mail any chain letters, make money fast
schemes, "me too" messages, or anything else that doesn't
contribute to the discussion about TMBG.

	IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT

When you send a message to the list you are sending
messages to hundreds of people. Make sure that your
message is one that hundreds of people need to read.
Do not send "me too" messages to the list. Do not
send messages about non-tmbg topics to the list. Hold
private conversations in private e-mail. Sending
messages that the list administrator deems off topic
will result in your being removed from the list.

4) The TMBG FAQ

The They Might Be Giants Frequently Asked Questions list is a compilation
of the most requested information about the Johns. It is maintained by John
Relph <relph@engr.sgi.com>. To get the latest copy of the FAQ, you can do
any of the following things. First, it is available on the World Wide Web
at:
        http://reality.sgi.com/relph/music/TMBG-FAQ.html
and, for a plaintext version:
        http://reality.sgi.com/relph/music/TMBG-FAQ
Second, it is posted regularly on the newsgroup alt.music.tmbg.
Third, if you can't get to one of those places, you can mail me
<jchaffer@tmbg.org> and I'll send you a copy.

5) The websites

The unofficial web site, http://www.tmbg.org/ has all sorts
of good TMBG information including information on this mailing

Hello 41-

<<Bottom line is they ain't gonna show it :(>>

This is not true. Flansburgh appeared on Episode 57, titled Joshua. His
appearance was brief, but there. The Space Ghost people do a lot of
interviews. Many never see air time, and many, like Flans' only are in
episodes for a short time. So be happy that he was in an episode.

One Half of Rock Duo Dies from Massive Heart Attack.
01 April 2000, 06:04 AM PST

NEW YORK (AP) - Early this morning, a member of one of rock's little known
but very talented bands died of a heart attack.

John Flansburgh, the guitar player for They Might Be Giants, a band out of
Brooklyn, died in Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center. He was 39.

Flansburgh came to the hospital himself at about 1:40 AM, complaining of
terrible chest pains. He was rushed to the cardiac care centrer, but died at
2:09 AM.

<Image>

"A heart attack of this magnitude has symptoms very early on," announced Dr.
Joel A. Strom, Director of Cardiology at Brookdale, at a small press
conference this morning. "Mr. Flansburgh must have waited two or three hours
or more before coming to the hospital.

Neither bandmate John Linell or Flansburgh's mother, Louise, could be reached
for comment at this time.

Hey, guess what??? GET A LIFE!!!

Why do people always pick poor Flansy for these things? Why not "Linell"?

It is my duty to inform this list that the article was later updated to
include the fact that:
"... as the rest of They Might Be Giants played on in the studio, all
members past and present were in attendance. Alas, a bomb had been planted
in the studio, which was poised to detonate as soon as Flansburgh's guitar
struck the Em chord. At the end of the session, fellow bandmate John
Linnell said, "Our thoughts go out to John's family. Let's play Ana Ng in
his honor." A letter sent to Rounder, their latest record label, claimed
responsibility for the attack and was signed, "Britney Spears, Marilyn
Manson, and George W. Bush, Jr." It is truly a day of mourning for talented
bands everywhere."

This is fine as far as it goes, but it seems that Flans somehow got the idea
that the entire interview would be aired. Of course, we have no way of
knowing what the Space Ghost people actually said, but if he wasn't told
that it would be aired in its entirety, why did the newsletter announce that
it would? There must have been some kind of miscommunication, unless the
Space Ghost crew just wanted to be rude to John.

Hmm, unfortunately not. Pity really, but Ric's is: Curly-Haired Slacker,
Jesus is: Temporary Spastic, and the most important one is, Bob
Dobbs: Homicidal Terrahawk.

Hi folks. I was a little disappointed when I found out that there are no
themes for the upcoming Bowery shows, and I know there are lots of people
that were looking forward to a Then show, myself included. Well, I have
updated my TMBG sounds page with the entire 10/21/99 Then show which took
place at the Bowery. I know it's not the same as being there but it's about
as close as you're gonna get to a Then show right now. :) It's been a long
time since I have announced an update.. this update is the biggest one ever,
at 35 new MP3s. I hope you enjoy them, they include Pencil Rain which has
never before appeared on my page!

My guess is Thunderbird did, since OEMN makes absolutely no sense and
Thunderbird has, ya know, content to it. Coincidences like that don't happen
very often ;)

That makes sense. In fact, I think Linnell said that he created "On Earth
My Nina" when he was fooling around with another song (which would have been
"Thunderbird").

Subject: TMBG: Being John Malkovich end music

I found a copy of the original script for Being John Malkovich online at
http://www.godamongdirectors.com/scripts/bejomalk.txt

and I noticed that there are a lot of small differences between this script
and what actually stayed in the film.
One thing that caught my attention was the end credits. The script says:

"MUSIC IN: "Put Your Hand Inside The Puppet Head" by They Might Be Giants.
It plays throughout the credits.

FADE OUT

THE END"

Unfortunately, I didn't stay for the end credits when I saw the movie, so I
don't know if Puppet Head ever did make its way into the film. I think it
would have been really appropriate for this movie, and I'd feel honored to
know that a band as good as TMBG was linked with a movie as good as Being
John Malkovich.

So, can anybody who stayed for the end credits help me out here?

Hey, that's keen. I don't think it made it. It didn't start right away, as in
the script... there's a chance it might have played in the last bit of the
credits. I don't remember if I stayed through the entire list, but that's the
kind of thing I would've noticed. I think we would've heard about it from the
band too, as much as they've been talking lately. But as cool as it woulda been
to hear TMBG in a movie, frankly, it would've been inappropriate for the tone
of the end of the flick...

What's really scary is that Mr. Statue did alot of research. It turns out
Brookdale Hosptial does exist, and Dr. Strom is Director of Cardiology. That
kinda bums me out, I was planning to do some actual looking into this, and
saying the at least he could of researched it. Oh well. At least e did a good
job at that.
