Too few labels with too many bands, and for the most part, promotion consists of tossing a bunch of bands against the wall and throwing cash at the ones that stick. Restless has a pretty strong distribution system and fairly deep pockets nowadays, and TMBG is probably getting a pretty decent royalty rate. A higher royalty rate with a slightly smaller number of consumers mean more money for the band than a larger audience and microscopic royalties on a major, and at least TMBG know that They mean something to Restless... ...Adam At 04:21 AM 12/14/00 +0000, General Purplefeet wrote: Yeah, if they were going to work with Restless, it seems like they could have made the deal long ago. After all, Severe Tire Damage was on Restless, and They made it seem as if it was a stopgap measure, not a permanent label. Then again, we don't know what wheeling and dealing went on. Maybe TMBG considered another offer, and then Restless gave them a better deal. ------------------------------ From: BirdhouseIYS@aol.com Message-ID: Date: Thu, 14 Dec 2000 05:46:02 EST Subject: Re: TMBG: Re: May December? I did say I wasn't 100% sure. I found out where I got the idea from though. In a TMBG catalog from a few years ago it says "Will You love me In December As You Do In May" (with lyrics by Mayor James J. Walker). Which led me to believe that Linnell wrote the lyrics. Also next to the title of the song on the CD it just says "Words by James J. Walker. On the CD it is credited as (J.J. Walker/Ernest R. Ball). It was copyrighted in 1905 so we can safely say it was wriien long before Linnell was born. Plus James J. Walker was mayor from 1926-32. Sorry for the mix up. You just have to keep an eye out for these things. Jim Sinner of July BirdhouseIYS@aol.com wrote: > Hall of Mayors was the hello cd of the month for august of '96. I got it by subscibing to hello back in '96 when it came out. There is a very slim chance you can still get it on tmbg.com. Last I checked it was on the catalog there. I should check that myself to see if I can get '94 and '95. If the hello cd's aren't available there you might be able to get them on ebay for a million dollars. ------------------------------ End of tmbg-list Digest #36-13 ******************************
