Sooo . . . here they are! http://www.geocities.com/iamnotinthemafia/conan/index.html And if Geocities is malfunctioning, you may use this URL: http://members.aol.com/fibrinolysis/conan/index.html Sorry if this is against the rules of this list. I've only been on it for a few months, but I've never seen anything derisively referring to picture links before, so I figured it'd probably be okay. If it isn't, just yell at me and I promise I will never do it again. Monique ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Feb 2001 22:13:12 -0800 (PST) From: "Robert J. Plass" Subject: TMBG: Headfone Follies Message-ID: <20010225061312.50378.qmail@web10002.mail.yahoo.com> Hello exquisite living people, Wow, I haven't written to the list in like forever! Anyway, I just came home from Headfone Follies, which was recently advertised here on this very list by Joshua Fried, the writer/producer of the show. Headfone Follies is a headphone-driven performance, where the actors wear headsets and they hear voices which they then have to repeat in real time. It was an incredible show, and I highly recommend that you try to catch the remaining performances, which are advertised at www.here.org and at Joshua's website: http://www.echonyc.com/~joshua/pages/upcoming.html. Robin Goldwasser, the wife of John Flansburgh was one of the performers. She was amazing, of course. My girlfriend Laura and I sat in the front row and right before the show started, John Flansburgh walked in and sat behind us! Oh, that was so cool. Afterwards, we saw them and I said hi to Robin and she said, "Hi Rob." We go to a lot of her performances here in NYC, so she knows me and Laura. Flansburgh was wearing the same brown and white sweater that he wears in the little video of the mixing session for "John Lee Supertaster" on the rollingstone.com website. Anyway, the coolest part was in the opening piece, which was called "Travelogue." The performer started saying the words to "Lullaby to Nightmares", which I knew Flansburgh had adapted from lyrics written by Fried. Laura and I were so surprised to hear it! I found out from Joshua after the show that he wrote the lyrics to the chorus in 1990 for the "Travelogue" part of the Headfone Follies show and John F. heard the "Travelogue" piece in a performance in the early 1990's. He then asked Joshua to write down the words and a few weeks later, called him and said, "Hey, I made a song out of it." Joshua later sang it on the Hello the Band EP, released through the Hello Recording Club in 1994. Flansburgh re-released it on Long Tall Weekend with his own vocals many years later. So anyway, that's the straight dope on the origins of the "Lullaby to Nightmares" song and go see "Headfone Follies."
