Will you be standing behind me? :) It took the local theater here a month to pick up "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", I severely doubt they'd touch "Gigantic" with a 39 1/2 foot pole. There is no force on Earth, however, that will keep me from the DVD release. Too, too cool. -- "When people come to our shows, they _dance_. It's sweaty, high energy. I'm not feeling quite up to a full-style concert review, but here's a quickie- The Recher reminded me of a smaller version of the Theatre of Living Arts in Philly. Not sure why. OkGo was a pretty cool opener. Very Soul Coughing, at times anyway. Met the guys afterwards, very nice, very cool. *Between sets, I do productive things like yelling for them to bring Mike Leffel out. He doesn't show.* They had the sound on 11. It was pretty loud, and there was some fun distortion in the really loud bits. They played Fingertips, and that was really cool to hear. Near the end I yelled out for Spacesuit. A bunch of guys behind me picked up on it and started yelling for the same. I'm not sure that a live arrangement of that even exists, but it's a fun idea. They played Minimum Wage, another one I'd never seen live before. My sister was glad to see Twisting show up. (Random info - we listened to the Hagfish version, which I have on CD, in the van on the way down there.) Unless I was dehydrated and hearing things, they played Robot Parade not only at the very beginning of the show, but also during an encore. The barrier in the front was close enough and the cannon was at such an angle, if anyone right up there had been inclined to do so, they could have easily blocked much of the blast with an outstretched hand. There was no mosh pits or pass the dude. I'm cool with that. Some guys held up an "All your base are belong to us" sign, and Flans stopped the show to talk about it. He was pretty confused. Dan Miller apparently then told him "It's a website." He was less interested then, but Linnell still introduced the next song by saying - "This next song are belong to us." As you can imagine, the very geeky crowd (self-inclusive) loved it. They spent a little time talking about the name of their upcoming album. I did my best to make sure they at least heard "Matt's Life Savings." It's terribly obscure, but I agree with the opinion voiced much earlier by someone else on the list, in that it's actually a pretty cool title. But, whatever. Oh yah, there was some new stuff at the merch table. New tshirt, in a red available in a nice range of sizes. Same design, but in light blue, youth large only. And for $7, some of your very own TMBG coffee. That's all the randomness I remember right now. The opinion expressing the utter coolness of this name might have been mine. I think that would be a super groovy name for the next record. Way, WAY better than the candidate names listed on the Emusic poll. The name, of course comes from a comment that one-time list poster Matt James (I think) made to the effect that he would give his life savings to get his hands on TMBG's next record (or something). Someone else (not me or Matt) then suggested that MLS would be a cool name for their next record, and we've been periodically dragging it out as a possible name for the last six years. Of course, Matt's life saving is probably worth a lot more now than six years ago, as long as he didn't put it all in the NASDAQ. >Oh yah, there was some new stuff at the merch table. Seems likely that if it were to be in theaters it would go to the ones that show mostly alternative films (like The Tower and Brewvies in SLC) or if it is done in time, The Sundance Film Festival in Park City. Some other notable bands have debuted their rockumentaries there, including Barenaked Ladies as one example (called Barenaked in America). Most people on the street may not know who TMBG is, but if it does play at Sundance, more people will associate TMBG as being a household word and pass along how great They really are. Once I introduced coworkers and friends to TMBG they can't get enough of their music (for the most part). My parents say that they actually miss TMBG being played all the time throughout their house since I moved out on my own, so I went over there the other day and played the State Songs CD and Severe Tire Damage for them. I fully introduced my dad to TMBG in 1992 when they were in town in SLC, but I couldn't go because we were on our way back from Nebraska. SO, we listened to all of the commercially available cassettes at that time from Kearney, NE to Denver, CO because I missed the show. It didn't replace being at the gig by any means, but you would do anything to get your TMBG fix! (I actually missed them TWICE on that tour-the night we were in NE, they were in Denver and the night we were in Denver, They were in SLC. I was really bummed :( )Since then, I haven't missed any of their shows in SLC and I hope they continue to play here for as long as they are around!
