Sorry if this is old news. I was trying to find out when and where I could find the Mc Sweeney's Book/CD. I was asking at several large newstands and bookstores but everyone was clueless. Word on this list was that it had been released yet no one had actually seen a copy. Tonight, when I was a Tower Records, I unexpectly saw it along with the CDs (not the books or mags as I had expected.) It was $25 at Tower. Its an actual book (looks nothing like a magazie.) Its hardcover and and cloth bound. Very high quality. I haven't listened to the disc yet but I was happy to see that it also contains music of Philip Glass. -B O N G O ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 May 2001 09:11:22 EDT From: MDthief@aol.com Subject: TMBG: Re: tmbg-list Digest #41-4 Message-ID: <48.1557bd22.2824047a@aol.com> Seven of my friends and I went to that show. I thought it was a really good show. The fact that we were in the front row may have had a little to do with the enjoyment level as did the fact that I and two of my friends all got set lists and had Flans and Dan (guitar Dan) sign them. My friend tried to record the performance, but i'm not sure if it came out or not, I'll keep you guys posted. Until then! *The Queen of Gish* << Hey All, I just saw Them at the Chameleon Club in Lancaster PA and was wondering if anyone else went to that show. I thought it was a great show with a solid performance. If anyone recorded this show I would do almost anything to get my hands on it! Thats the word. And for those of you who are scrupulous it IS a tuesday. Ok. What's the third track supposed to be for TMBG Unlimited #2? I'm sure I downloaded it, I just didn't label it correctly. Second, I personally quite like the present Unlimited songs. I'd be disheartened that we'll wind up owning the whole album before it's released, but...we get a free (signed) copy anyway, so what's the point of complaining? :) And I'm always up for getting a whole live show, too. Anyway, I don't think that qualifies as two cents, so there's my one cent. "Mink Car" (demo) - this song reminds me SO much of the oldie "Walk on By" it's not even funny. If you haven't heard it, go download it from somewhere and see what I mean. And bonus points to whoever can tell me who wrote it (hint: it *is* TMBG related ;) "Another First Kiss" : This song is a whole 'nother animal from the STD version, and I like it just as much, but in a totally different way. I hope no one complains that they "ruined" it, because it really is beautiful. "Tigerella" - oh, man, this made me flash back to the days when my mom made me listen to the Rolling Stones blues era stuff - this is Linnell doing his best Mick Jagger impression! I won't review the McSweeny's tracks...I admit I'm puzzled as to why they would release so many of them on emusic since they were intended to go with the journal, and are much more effective that way. The crypt stuff is ok, but the quality isn't exactly stellar. But then, it did come from bootlegs. And while I have a bootleg copy of the demo tape,it's still cool to have a good quality version of the "They Might Be Giants" demo. And that's it. My appetite is totally whetted for the new album!! The following month I asked him about it and he said he liked it a lot. There's a new version of Battle for the Planet of the Apes on it, for which we were instructed to chant the names of the band members rather then 'people' and 'apes'. I decided to call it "Battle for the Planet of TMBG" for the liner notes. It seems that They have cleaned up the recording and used it for two new tracks on the TMBG Unlimited From the Crypt section, and they even used the name I made up. They also used "Somebody Took My Eyeball". The song was actually written by (and I did a web search just to make sure) "Bacharach and David." As in "Bacharach and David used to write our favorite songs" ("Youth Culture Killed My Dog"). "Mink Car" is clearly influenced by them! The songs are great, the screw up on the song listing is sloppy at best..lets > get it together Emusic! So, the they are all one off, then the last song > Twist is where? > According to a post on the newsgroup or web board (I lost track, hehe), emusic has been made aware of the problem and it should be fixed early next week.
