It's different, but I really like it! I haven't been keeping up with the mp3's so most of the songs are new to me, including Mr. Xcitement. I was listening to it and it was reminding me of a song that was just out of reach of my mind - I hate when that happens. But I've finally figured it out: it reminds me of that Bloodhound Gang song, "The Bad Touch" I think it's the cadence of the lyrics more than anything else. Other thoughts: I liked the original version of First Kiss better, the rock version. I like this version of I've Got A Fang better than the one I heard at the show in May Yeah Yeah is one of the best songs I've ever heard ever Bangs is creepy - he's only holding her hand to look at her bangs? Sounds like a fetish to me. I'm glad I hadn't already downloaded and listened to most of these songs. Not that I was trying to avoid them, I just didn't want to pay for emusic and I don't have a sound card on my computer at work so I just never heard them. If a certain sound sells, than they will stick with that sound and try to milk it as much as they can. If this happens to TMBG, they may just become another bland modern rock/pop group. Basically, we don't want them to become the next Matchbox 20. But I still wish them success, 'cause I truly think that they are better than that. The Johns are true artists, and they will do whatever they want to do, even if it isn't very VH1 friendly. They are always experimenting with new and different sounds, and if one of those sounds happens to work better than other, I don't believe that they will limit themselves to only that sound. Just read the lyrics a few times. A few other songs which hint at some religious themes are Spiraling Shape (which is about just about anything, but I persist), The Bells Are Ringing (Bells = Church = Mind Control? Could be.), and Dirt Bike (Which is about a bike who becomes a sort of savior/Christ-like figure. A friggin' bicycle.) ÁÁThe guy who runs the site said he'd put Linnell up on his next update, and who knows when that'll be? Then again, he does update fairly often. The interview can be read at tmbg.net, http://www.tmbg.net/articles/applesoranges1994.html. ÁÁTMBG also did a Hanukkah song, "Festival of Lights," in which Linnell managed to rhyme Hanukkah with Harmonica, and got away with it. It's on twistid, if you care enough to download it.
